Best Route from Mt. Rainier to Port Angeles?

I'm looking for advice as to the best route from Mt. Rainier to Port Angeles. The Hwy 3 route through Tacoma and Bremerton or through Olympia and up the 101? The Tacoma-Bremerton route appears shorter but having never been through there, is the highway a 55mph road like 101?

Hwy 101 between Shelton and Quilcene is pretty much 40 mph or less, a little 2 lane road with lots of curves that follows the Hood Canal. Great scenery but a slow drive. Hwy 3 is 55 or 60 mph and probably half 2 lane and half 4 lane and also nice scenery. From Mt. Rainier I would opt for it's actually Hwy 16 from Tacoma to Hwy 3 to Hwy 104 to Hwy 101.
