Best portable gas grill
I have been researching portable gas grills and would be interested to hear of those of you who are experienced with any of them. I am leaning towards the Weber Q1200. Probably won't be cooking for more than 4 at a time and it seems very compact.

We have an O'Grill. Lightweight, good sized cooking surface and it grills great. My brother-in-law has the Weber. Its good to but bulkier.

Weber Q2200.
Larger, but handy when you have company.

Not to sure your question is possible to answer as I have not used all the grills currently being produced. I can tell you what I am currently using.
The Volcano Grill. Uses charcoal, propane and wood. Best all around grill that I have come across. It has become my go to grill for camping and at home. Excellant for Dutch oven use, grilling and smoking.

Costco has a great portable grill with legs that fold up making it the most compact I've seen. I like anything from Costco, their return policy can't be beat.

Best is subjective....For 9 years, I have used a 30 buck Uniflame brand from Walmart. It has worked great for me.

As CRH sated this is very subjective. I have had a couple over the years the latest have been the Cobb and the TEK Cherokee infared grill. I am not a big fan of the Cobb although others swear buy it. I do like the TEK. It can get extremely hot upwrds of 600 degrees and also relatively low at around 300. I have cooked from ribeye to eggs and bacon on it. I also have a Mirage Infared portable cooktop that I take camping. I used that for things like pasta, blanching vegetables, cooking oatmeal etc.
I also use the TEK at home to supplement my other grills (MAK 2 Star and Greenegg)
Good luck on your search.

Check out the thread on portable grills in the "Stella's Kitchen" section. They have beaten the portable grill to death there.

We've had a Baby Q, now the Q1000, for 5 or 6 seasons. Didn't need the side shelves as the grill is usually set on a table at the campsite.
Cooks great and very reliable.
The grill, propane bottles, drip trays and accessories all fit in a Rubbermade container for transport and storage.

I use the grill with legs and got adaptors to use the propane access in the front. Since I hate cleaning, I use non stick foil with it. I bought two 10ft extensions to get it in place where I want it: away from the sun or wind direction.

Diner smell
Kind of on topic
Since I have an Interstate without external storage. I'm concerned about odor.
The O-grill has a carry case.
Should a moderately clean grate and a carry case solve the smell problem?

We use the Weber Q1200 with the fold-up stand, works great. So does every other brand/style that is "best" for any particular camper at any particular time. Ask them and you will see . . . everyone has their own "best" and good reasons why.

This may not be exactly what your looking for, but the results are incredible. I use a Green Mountain "Davey Crockett" plellet grill. It's based on 12v power, legs fold up into a carry handle, temps range from 180-500 degrees, had a digital temp control that can put out its own wifi to control the grill with your phone.
Uses wood pellets for fuel, so if used low 180-220 you smoking and if higher at say 300-500 it's more akin to a wood burning oven.
Could be worth a look.
Cheers

Thanks for asking.
In the 10 years since the old thread was started, the grill market has changed, and Airstream has started putting low-pressure propane outlets on trailers from the factory.
I added a low-pressure port to mine, and use a Magma grill, with which I am well pleased. It is much more convenient and reliable to use the low-pressure port than to use the various alternatives: disposable 1-pound cylinders, Ting off the high pressure connector at the cylinders on the tongue, carrying another big cylinder, or using solid fuel.
