The Wild Olive, in the town of Crestview in the Florida panhandle, (off I-10 exit 56, then 3mi north, we parked in the big church parking lot across the street!)
We had breakfast and I ordered the Lemon-Ricotta Blueberry pancakes (yuuuuuuuuummmmm). Oh yeah, I'll go back next time I-10 is in our travel plans!

Can't wait to try some of these! Big thanks for pointing out the website with all the Triple-D places Guy Fieri has visited. We looked and looked for that while on our last x-country trip and could *not* find it.

Meanwhile, try Lum's BBQ in Junction, TX (middle of nowhere, but definitely worth the stop).

When In Sedona, AZ

I hate passing out the names of good places to dine, because when I go back there myself, the prices have risen! Anyhoooos...Can't say enough about this lil Mexican place we found in Sedona. Excellent food & great customer service, along with reasonable prices. The fajita chimichanga was off the charts!

[QUOTE=BoldAdventure;

I feel that franchises just water down whatever culture and local flavor is left in America. And turn everything into blandness. Places like Applebee's serve the same crap in all 50 states. So I made it a purpose that when we treat ourselves to eating out, we do so only at locally owned restaurants.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the great thread Annette.
PS- you just gotta be a former BMW rider with that handle.

Bold Adventure

Very well said.

Thanks, Dan

if you are headed into the PNW, in Port Townsend for breakfast - Blue Moose Cafe, right in the port industrial area. in Port Angeles - The Haven, right on one of the main streets.

in both cases, great coffee and a good selection of breakfast items. both often crowded and there is no place to park your trailer and tow vehicle.

I'm the black widow of brand loyalty. Whenever I like anything, they either stop making it, or stop providing it in Canada, or they go out of business.

Wanted to recommend the Elvis Cafe in the Fraser Canyon, but sure enough, they've gone out of business.

This one looks like a decent replacement and is on the same highway. Haven't been there, but it's getting good reviews.

VERY sorry to hear the Elvis Cafe is no more. That was a great place with amazing decor. Can't say I remember much about the food, but the people and the interior were special. I made several stops there.
Quality mom 'n pop businesses are disappearing and being rolled over by WallMarts and other big box behemoths. The little guys are working hard to earn our support, and they deserve it.

Last week, we detoured out of Fish Lake for a day trip to Capitol Reef. Favorite lunch spot in Torrey is Slacker's Burger Joint. Great burgers and fries, but my favorite is a hot fudge malt. A "don't miss" for our family whenever we find our way to Torrey, UT and Capitol Reef National Park.

If you're ever in Kitchener the Metro Tavern has the best schnitzel anywhere.

Clam Chowder in Cedar Key

Bringing this thread back up.........
The Best Clam Chowder Ever is at Tony's in Cedar Key, Florida. (Winner of the clam chowder cook off 3 years in a row!)
And since you're in "clam country" order the clam strips too - DEElicious!
There's a public parking lot a few blocks away by the boat launch or you'll have to find a spot down a side street.

For the best oysters near Apalachicola FL, stop in to Island View in Eastpoint to buy they by the bushel or half bushel $38. A bit of work to clean them and then open but totally worth it. Or if you want to have them opened and served with a beer, try Lynn's just up the street.
And for excellent blue crabs, try Seafoodlicious in Savannah Georgia. It's a take out place but we bought 2 pounds at $8/each and got a 3rd pound free. They also had seafood salad and stuffed crab cake which was spicy and delicious.

In Leesburg Virginia the Blue Ridge Grill has excellent ribs and Thundercracker shrimp pasta. Joe Theisman frequents this restaurant since he lives 5.27 miles from it.

Best breakfast

Funny, i just told Bill this morning I thought his breakfast was as good as I have had anywhere....and I have eaten in some fancy places. Huge servings, great coffee, friendly staff.......low prices! And, I think he has owned this for 30 or more years....

So, if you are looking for a family oriented small diner:

Bill's Ham Place
1420 Southfield Rd, Lincoln Park, MI 48146

Check out the Steak n Hoagie shop in Charlotte, NC. This is a small local Greek restaurant. I always get Grecian Chicken which is $5.95 and includes two home made side dishes.

In DeLand, Florida go to Santorinis Greek Quisine. Small but great food that is lovingly prepared.

In St. Augustine the locals eat at O'Steen's Restaurant. Bring cash. Great fried shrimp.

Best Burgers In NC

For a great hand patted hamburger try Johnson's in Siler City, NC. He has fresh ground meat, never frozen, and when he runs out for the day he is out. It is in an old service station and the line can be long. Open for lunch only Monday-Saturday.

Also we just ate at the Shed Barbeque and Blues in Ocean Springs, Mississippi while we were on a day trip to Biloxi from Canopener. They have great pulled pork and a very unique atmosphere.

North Carolina IS a big state.....

to quote Silverbee ---- "Best Burgers In NC"

But, since NC IS a big state, have to pay homage to a couple more fab burger joints that I know of. Both only do it freshly ground every day. Both of these places make lots of stuff but I'll stick to my favorites.

TasTee in Shelby, NC Have an outside shelter with tables
Great Cheeseburger basket

Blackwood's Drive In -- Kings Mountain, NC -- They have curb service, outside picnic tables or you can eat inside
Lotta Burger basket -- 2 patties, side by side, with slaw, pickles, cheese

Yum Yum
