Great thred Annette! Dinah's in Los Angeles. 6521 Sepulveda blvd. Best fried chicken and deep dish apple pancakes. This place hasn't changed since the fifties. The last time I was there was in 1998 before I moved to D.C.... This thred is making me hungry.

Azteca in Clewiston, FL

Whenever I'm crossing Florida by bouncing off the south end of Lake Okeechobee, I grab some pastor tacos at the Azteca Market in Clewiston. Wow are they good! This is old-school Mexico here... none of that Tex-Mex stuff like hard shells, lettuce or cheese!

There are a few shut-down businesses around it, so RV parking is a breeze. They're behind the NAPA store, near the east end of town: 114 North San Jose Street, Clewiston, FL 33440

When in Marathon, Texas (gateway to Big Bend), hit the Marathon Coffee Shop. Right on Highway 90, easy parking all around, interesting place with good food.

Best Locally Owned Restaurants,Cafes,Diners,Shacks

I had a health dinner here tonight. Chicken burger, hamburger, fries, and only a small chocolate shake. Bunch of MGBs, a Tiger, and an XJ6 all gathered for a chat. Bedford, NS. Jim

The Wild Olive, in the town of Crestview in the Florida panhandle, (off I-10 exit 56, then 3mi north, we parked in the big church parking lot across the street!)
We had breakfast and I ordered the Lemon-Ricotta Blueberry pancakes (yuuuuuuuuummmmm). Oh yeah, I'll go back next time I-10 is in our travel plans!

Can't wait to try some of these! Big thanks for pointing out the website with all the Triple-D places Guy Fieri has visited. We looked and looked for that while on our last x-country trip and could *not* find it.

Meanwhile, try Lum's BBQ in Junction, TX (middle of nowhere, but definitely worth the stop).

When In Sedona, AZ

I hate passing out the names of good places to dine, because when I go back there myself, the prices have risen! Anyhoooos...Can't say enough about this lil Mexican place we found in Sedona. Excellent food & great customer service, along with reasonable prices. The fajita chimichanga was off the charts!

[QUOTE=BoldAdventure;

I feel that franchises just water down whatever culture and local flavor is left in America. And turn everything into blandness. Places like Applebee's serve the same crap in all 50 states. So I made it a purpose that when we treat ourselves to eating out, we do so only at locally owned restaurants.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the great thread Annette.
PS- you just gotta be a former BMW rider with that handle.

Bold Adventure

Very well said.

Thanks, Dan

if you are headed into the PNW, in Port Townsend for breakfast - Blue Moose Cafe, right in the port industrial area. in Port Angeles - The Haven, right on one of the main streets.

in both cases, great coffee and a good selection of breakfast items. both often crowded and there is no place to park your trailer and tow vehicle.

I'm the black widow of brand loyalty. Whenever I like anything, they either stop making it, or stop providing it in Canada, or they go out of business.

Wanted to recommend the Elvis Cafe in the Fraser Canyon, but sure enough, they've gone out of business.

This one looks like a decent replacement and is on the same highway. Haven't been there, but it's getting good reviews.

The Mighty Fraser Motel and Fat Jack's Pub#

The FaN at the now defunct "Elvis Rocks the Canyon Cafe."
