Best camping/travel quotes. . .
"Memory is the best of all gardens. Therein, winter and summer, the seeds of the past lie dormant, ready to spring into instant bloom at any moment the mind wishes to bring them to life."-Hal Boyle
I read this on another forum, SOB, but instantly felt that it expressed our feelings about camping and travel with our Airstream. With the waning of this camping season and onset of w-i-n-t-e-r, I know that on snowy days and stormy nights, I'll be browsing travel brochures and creating photo albums from the summer snapshots, keeping alive those Airstream memories. Darn, already I can hardly wait for Spring and we haven't even winterized for this winter yet! Challenge: do you have a favorite quote about camping and travel-funny, lovely, ironic, whatever. . .? Please share. Another one of mine from a song, probably not correctly quoted, but it captures the lure of the road: ". . .and I wonder, what's around the bend. . ." (If you wonder about this thread, I'm high centered at home this week tending a son with a badly fractured leg-too much time on my hands!)

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost

"Got up this morning with nothing to do ... and go to bed with it half done."
Not sure of the quotes origin, but it is posted in the memory of George Abrahams.

"It's not too far now, just over this next hill..."
C.P.R. ... a good friend, superb partner, and entertaining travelling companion.
Once upon a time (in the days before GPS) we hiked many many miles over mountain terrain in Lake, Colusa, and Mendocino counties in northern CA carrying Alice packs, water, and all our survival equipment looking for marijuana fields that we'd spotted from helicopters. When we were about to drop from exhaustion, he began reciting his mantra: "It's not too far now, just over this next hill..."

This is not a quote directly about camping, but a love poem that (for me, at least) captures all the romance of the outdoors. It's by Christopher Marlowe, although sometimes misattributed to Shakespeare.
I wonder if this means that we really need to outfit the trailer with an ivory table and silver dishes?
Mary
Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That hill and valley, dale and field,
And all the craggy mountains yield.
There we will sit upon the rocks,
And see the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.
There I will make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle;
A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty lambs we pull;
Fair lined slippers for the cold,
With buckles of the purest gold;
A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs:
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me and be my love.
Thy silver dishes for thy meat,
As precious as the gods do eat,
Shall on an ivory table be
Prepared each day for thee and me.
The shepherds' swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each May morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my love.

Beautiful. . .took me back to my college years and English Lit! I think our Gypsy needs this tucked just inside her entry door. Thanks for sharing, everyone! I am totally enjoying your responses Hope everyone else is too. (Sort of reminds me of last winter's Haiku. . .oops, shouldn't have mentioned that!)

Here is one we use each time we go camping and the pilot light keeps going out or some needed item breaks down, quits running, falls apart, starts leaking, won't work or has been forgotten.....
