Best Arkansas campgrounds?
We are getting camping fever and would like to go somewhere in Arkansas, which is fairly close and has mountains, rocks, clear water lakes and waterfalls, all of which are in short supply here in Louisiana. What are the best campgrounds in Arkansas? We prefer heavily wooded campsites where you don't see your neighbor too much. We try to avoid places like KOA and the like, which to me are glorified parking lots. Mountains or even high hills would be good. Lakeside too.
Any recommendations?

We have relatives in Ark and we have stayed at Petit Jean SP .It was a very nice park. off AR hiway 7 between Hotsprings and I-40. We have also stayed at Woolly Springs SP at Greenbrier. It is north of I-40 just past Greenbrier off Fed Hiway 65.Both were quiet and had good shade trees when we were there. Petit Jean is on top of a mountain. Enjoy your trip where ever you decide to go.

Thanks, Kay.
I have read a bit about Petit Jean and it sounds great. Any one else been to any campgrounds in the Arkansas mountains?

Hi Greg, Ashley, & all,
Google Arkansas State parks, Bull Shoals, and Nimrod Lakes in very north Arkansas. Also Mount Magazine (The highest point in the state and has a new lodge) and Cove Lake (nearby) in west central AR.
In the exact middle of AR is Little Rock. There are no waterfalls, right on the edge of AR mountians vs Mississippi delta (SW to NE diagonal).
Still, lots to do. Just don't come here without letting me know you are coming.
Would be delighted to meet you.

Last Oct, we stayed at the KOA in Hot Springs. It was very wooded and the sites were mountainous. One of the nicest parks we have stayed in and in the park too.
I would not hesitate to try this one.

Has anyone stayed at Mount NEBO State Park? Park web site says a 24 ft is the recommended max length. We have a 23 ft and am wondering if it would be a problem.
Thanks

Several places around DeGray Lake. Several friends have camped there and really liked it. For me, hard to beat the cool breeze at Bull Shoals White River State Park when they release the cold water from the bottom of the dam and it creates a cold fog in front of the park. Good luck

There are many COE parks that are beautiful and always on water.
