Beach Camping

Looking for beach front camping information. This shot was from Camp Gulf located near Destin Florida. Had a wonderful time and would like to try it other places.

Long time Maggie since we've been to Padre Island. But you can camp there on the beach?

Right on the beach, and it is the most splendiferous experience for those of us who live away from the seashore.

They have a dump station and water fill there, too. Keep your batteries going and you are good for days and days.

We'll be headed down there late January or so....will look for silver on the beach.

Jbroedlow in Streator, there is a great rally in Illinois the second weekend in June, Moraine View.

Watch for it. Would love to see you there.

And, of course, Edisto Beach SP near charleston, Sc.....also a beach campground, not the same as beach "camping", IMO.

Beach camping, to us, is pullin' out on the packed sand, getting set up with awning and chairs, then spending days" right there on the shore.....listening to the surf, watching the pelicans, gulls, etc.

That is "beach camping", in its truest and finest form.

Is it January yet?

No doubt, Camp Gulf on the beach front is as close as you can get to the ocean. So close that they haul away your grey and black water in tractor pulled honey wagons. You do get sand in everything and you keep finding it months later.

We just got back from Camp Gulf too. We had the pleasure of meeting Randy & Nancy (tsunami). Loved it there! I caught this yummy redfish at the shore & walked it back to my trailer for a quick fillet! (we opted to stay up from the shore--I can't handle that much sand )

Great photos. So how did you prepare the fish for dinner. It was a heck of a catch. Hope the rest of your stay at Camp Gulf was enjoyable. Looking forward to crossing paths with you and your lovely daughters again.

We picked up some Gulf Shrimp at the shop down the street (like you suggested) and I sautéed them in butter, pepper & garlic. Then I cooked the Redfish in the juices left from the shrimp. Ohhhhh, it was gooood! And, yes, we sure did enjoy our stay. We so want to go back again. The hot tub was fabulous after a long day at the beach! More of a resort than a campground, but so enjoyed after a hard few months of 65 hour work weeks! A pleasure meeting you too, Randy!

Montauk County park on the very eastern tip of Long Island. Exquisite sunsets. No reservations just first come first in. Max stay is one week in the summer. Awesome spot.

A word of warning. I was at Padre Island NS in the late Spring. I did NOT camp on the sand, though. The park I was in was about 150 feet from the water, though. Apparently, an adventurous soul HAD camped in the sand right before I got there. An "unusually high" tide came in, and when it went out, the trailer had "submerged" up to the top of the wheel wells in sand (oh and water had also swamped it). Guess it was also a huge project to both dig him out and pull the TV and trailer out of the sand. I think I'd opt for lakeside instead of tidal waters!

We do it on the Texas coast often. Here also, is a shot from Navarre, FL. St Rosa Sound RV Resort, a very nice park and on the sound. If you are new to beach camping, wash the salt film off ASAP and keep a keen eye out for Filiform Corrosion for several weeks after. There is a good thread on Filiform, massively long, but a ton of info: "Corrosion problems with new Airstreams". Worth a scan through if you are going to be near salt.
