Baxter State Park, Maine

Hello friends,
One of the places I've yet to explore is Baxter. I was in Me this past week and was talking to a person at LL Bean. It seems that Baxter might not allow me and my Airstream to camp at one of it's campgrounds, it's made to be kept very primative, ie tents. There is private campgrounds around the park. I was also told that lines to get in for the day can be overwellming, and I might need to be online at 4am to get in!
So, my questions are, who has been there, where did you stay? How crowded and such? lines to get in? I understand its more than 100,000 arces what part of the park did you explore?
Aby input to plan my vacation out would be great, I am thinking of it in 2014. John

We have camper there twice - both times pre Airstream, i.e., tent camping. It's a great park and I highly recommend it ut they do have LOTS of restrictions - you need to sort those out before hand. Good luck!

Thanks so far

OK, read some of the rules, looks like the Airstream is too long, too bad! Jeez, my truck is over 18' long, it's close to not allowed. So I guess I need to start looking for private campgrounds close by. And, if you're a dog owner, don't bother, not allowed either. MPJ
