Bad Accident on Highway 101
We just got back from 15 days on the road where we saw lots of beautiful country and, sad to say, one terrible accident.
On Saturday, July 31st we were heading north on 101 just South of Willits, California. It was a clear day, not windy and the traffic was light. This section is hilly but straight with no tight turns. Coming down a hill we saw a rolled Airstream in the median, wheels up. It had just happened because there were just a few cars stopped and one government truck talking to a visibly shaken older gentleman. The only rig stopped with a hitch was an older station wagon with a dented up rear end. The trailer has a single axle and was probably a 19 footer.
From the looks of things I would guess that he got going a little too fast on the downhill and was dealing with some serious sway. The trailer broke loose and no one was hurt, that we could tell. About 5 minutes later a highway patrol passed us going to the scene and then about 5 minutes after that a fire truck was heading out.
We had been focused on spotting Airstreams and we did see 34 on our trip. This one was one I wish I hadn't seen. Did any of you hear about or see this accident?
