Terry;
These look great. That damage from the storm in Calif. was something else. Usually in an area like that they are not used to much or any snow fall and when it happens it does cause a lot of damage.
So far our winter has been pretty mile. We even were able to see our driveway (all 300' of it) until Sunday night when we got another 2 inches of snow. It is melting again. Night times get pretty chilly @ low 20's so it takes a while to warm up so it starts melting.
See you and Greg in Cottonwood.

Thanks, Bob & Lou...it was a strange thing being in the midst of all that "demolition" at Wm Heise...felt like we were on a mercy mission or something! But we survived... Looking forward to seeing you at Dead Horse 3...only a couple of weeks sway now!

Patagonia Lake State Park (AZ)
We spent Super Bowl Weekend at Patagonia Lake State Park in extreme southern Arizona not far from the Mexico border between Patagonia, AZ and Nogales, AZ. I's a good winter retreat frequented by birders from across the country and Canada. It's a great recreational lake with RV and tent camping, boating, swimming, fishing and birding, as well as hiking. Of course, there's not much swimming in the winter! Days were in the 60s/70s and nights in the 40s this trip... We took a wine-tasting trip to one of the local wineries (fun!), and just generally enjoyed ourselves... Below are some pics...you can get the whole story and a lot more pictures at out travel log (link below)... See you down the road!

Dead Horse 3 4CU Rally + Lake Pleasant, AZ
Wow! We are really late in posting these pics ... but better later than never, huh? ... We have had a whirlwind of activity starting with the Airstream Four Corners Unit Dead Horse 3 Rally over President’s Day weekend in February....with a theme of "Luau Party"...complete with a Spam recipe contest! (Yes!) It seems like a really long time ago now, but it was a great time! Our thanks to Jan and Richard, the hosts.
Then the rally was followed by four nights at Lake Pleasant just NW of Phoenix with our friend Sandy from Utah, who had also attended the Rally...a very nice campground with surrealistic views of the lake surrounded by desert... we'll definitely be back there...
This update includes the (1) Dead Horse 3 Rally in Cottonwood, AZ at Dead Horse Ranch State Park ... (2) followed by a second leg of that trip at Lake Pleasant (part of the Maricopa County Region Recreation system)...
And our whirlwind didn't end there...we were pleased to host a couple of sets of AS guests at our place in Tucson for a couple of weeks off and on...it was like an extension of our adventures in the AZ northland! You can get the whole story at our travel log.
The travel log link below takes you to our 2009 trips list page. From there you can go to our latest trips and also trips made in 2007 & 2008 ...
Hope you enjoy! We’ve included a few pics below to tease you to go see more at our travel log... we hope you visit...

Picacho Peak State Park, AZ - March 2009
After our marathon trip to Dead Horse 3 / Lake Pleasant ... and ensuing couple of weeks of AS guests in Tucson, we needed a weekend of R&R. So we took off for an extended weekend at one of our favorite low-key haunts, Picacho Peak State Park between Tucson & Phoenix just off I-10. We've been there many many times, but each time offers something new it seems. This time we were happy to see that the visitor's center is almost ready for public use. And something else was new this trip ... the park was filled to capacity nearly every night through the weekend...something we've never seen before.
We had a nice, relaxing, low-profile time despite how busy the park was and got the much-needed rest and relaxation that we went for...
Enjoy our pics below and please come see us at our travel log...the link is below...you'll see the March 2009 trip to Picacho listed...
Happy Trails!

Roper Lake State Park, Safford, AZ - 26-31 Mar 09
Hey All...
We just posted a travel log update for a long weekend to Picacho Peak State Park ... But this time we are more on top of it this time... so this update is for our last trip ... an extended weekend 26 – 31 March... to Roper Lake State Park, about 120 miles east of Tucson, near Safford, AZ. Roper is a regular haunt of ours, and serves nicely as a familiar zone that we can get to quickly for a fast R&R fix.
As fate would have it, we also were able to camp a little more with our friend Sandy from Utah, who has been in the Tucson area for a while and was headed in the same direction as we were as she made her way to New Mexico and on to Colorado before heading home to Utah.
Below are a few pictures from the trip ... But be sure to visit our travel log (link below) for the whole story and more pictures ... You can also visit earlier trips to Roper for more pictures of the area...just go to the 2007 and 2008 trips list pages where you’ll find links to earlier trips.
We hope you enjoy the log ... and Happy Trails!

Fool Hollow lake State Park/AZ - SNOW, April 16, 2009
Hey all...
You will hear more about this later in our travel logonce we return from this trip, but wanted to share pics of our campsite at Fool Hollow Lake State Park (16 Apr)...and the light snow we had this evening...it's not snowing at the moment, but it's 33 degrees at 9 PM...wondering is we are getting more snow tonight...it's supposed to warm up this weekend, but who really knows?
I know, I know...this snow is nothing really, but remember we are from Tucson and the white stuff is not seen that often...and we've never been snowed on during a trip... It's kind of exciting...
Oops..forgot photos...see next post...

Fool Hollow State Park
Hey TB and Greg,
Bonnie and I think that Fool Hollow is the best all around "real" RV campground in the state of Arizona. We will probably be up there this Fall. Summer is just too crowded for our taste.
Perhaps we will see you out and about. Hope so.

We agree 100%...it's the best park in the state...not only does it have the best amenities, but it's beautiful and there's something for everyone ... fishing, boating, great walking trails ... and close to Show Low and other attractions in the general area. We're with you ... summers are crowded ... that's why we hit it in the spring and fall ... when it's less busy... Hope we see you there!

Server Problems
Unfortunately, the server housing our website has had some issues this week. Suffice it to say that it's been annoying. But we expect everything to be resolved by the end of this week...so they tell us.
Initially we had no email for 24+ hours and our website was off line until yesterday. The website will at least load now, but it is not current ... our last two trip logs (Roper Lake and Fool Hollow) are not accessible. Hopefully this will be remedied soon once a full restoration has been accomplished.
So if you've tried recently to access our website and have not been able to, or have not been able to find logs for these two trips, that's why.
We'll put a note here as soon as the problem is solved. Thanks for your patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience or frustrations.

West Texas and SW New Mexico: 26 May - 6 Jun 09
We’ve just finished the travel log update (finally) for our 12-day trip to West Texas and SW New Mexico... We left on 26 May, the day after Memorial Day, and returned to Tucson on 6 June.
We wanted to explore a little mountain area in the middle of the horn of West Texas that sits below New Mexico, the Davis Mountains. The area has a Texas state park and the nearby town of Fort Davis is the highest town in Texas! Although the Davis Mountains are surrounded by flatlands that are pretty warm this time of the year, the mountain weather forecast seemed inviting. It worked out great ... cooler weather complete with daily rains similar to the Tucson monsoons (until we went to NM, anyway) and new places to explore, to boot.
The New Mexico leg of the trip was more of a scouting mission than anything. We knew there were several NM state parks along the Rio Grande north from Las Cruces on I-25, but we’d never been to any of them. This will be handy when we go to northern New Mexico in September to attend 4CU Heron Lake Rally ... And we are hoping to go to the ABQ Balloon Fiesta Rally in October. Both these events will require a stop-over along the way. After this trip we know of at least 3 potential camp grounds that are a good day’s drive from Tucson ... and right on the route to points north. The weather will be cooler in NM then, too.
Below are a few pictures from the trip ... But be sure to visit our travel log (link below) for the whole story and/or more pictures. This link takes you to the trips list page for 2009. Just click on the last entry for the Texas/NM trip. You can also visit earlier trips going back to 2007.
We hope you enjoy the log ... Happy Trails!
