During one stay at Gilbert Ray the rangers had to remove a rattle snake to "relocate" it from another site, but we personally have not had any run-ins with the desert critters. You just have to exercise common sense and be aware of where you are...

There is something to be said for swimming pools and cable (and we appreciate those things when we have them from time to time), but there is also something to be said for nature. There is no reason you can't do both, is there? You could break up a Tucson visit to spend some of your time "luxiating" by a pool...and part of enjoying the desert in a more personal way. You could easily go "campground-hopping" around SoAZ for a while, then when you're ready, plop down in an RV park and relive everything beside the pool! That's what I would do if I were spending an extended stay in a specific locale.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. In fact, spending a year or two living full-time on the road holds great appeal for me. My DH isn't into it, though, so it won't happen. No problem, really, as long as we get out a few times a year for a decent length of time.

We have done a lot of shorter trips, but we are beginning to make extended trips of 2-3 weeks at a time now. But we move a lot. On these longer trips we rarely stay anywhere for more than 3 nights ... maybe 4 ... and then move on to new territory. Love it. We also do extentions of trips we make for rallies. We just did a Rally in Santa Fe, for example ... 4 nights in Santa Fe for the rally, then we hit the road for CO, and did the Pagosa Springs/Durango/Silverton/Ouray/Telluride/Dolores loop ... beautiful...then hopped over to UT and can back through Monument Valley, the Navajo Reservation and central AZ. After we left Santa Fe we didn't stay anywhere very long ... but we covered 1600 miles in a big circle and discovered several places we will return to and enjoy at a more leisurely pace...

Just be sure to turn off the water at the street before you leave!

Really! That was a lesson hard-learned! Yikes! Now we turn it off every time we leave for even a short trip...

Ho-ho-ho! 2013

Here we are at the end of 2013...and, yes, I am sorry to say that we are still woefully behind on our travel log. My New Year's Resolution is to catch up and get the many great trips and memories we have made over the last year or so logged to share with everyone...

In the meantime, Happy Holidays! (Pic from AZBambi's travels in Arizona's High Country
