Hey sports fans, planning a trip up the good 'ol 101. Is the avenue of the giants easily driveable dragging my FC27? Thanks, Dan.

Now that is an interesting question. We drop our shiny and drive the Avenue solo. On one occasion we followed a small AS through the area. They had much more room than we expected they would have. We also read posts from folks that say they have towed their AS through the Avenue. Our concern is that there are some very big trees on the very edge of the pavement.

So, you likely can, but ....... the drive is much more interesting, relaxing and enjoyable if you make the trip solo. Of course that's a personal opinion. Suggest you pull up the Avenue on Google maps and move the little man to the road and drive along with the camera images to see what it's like.

What ever you do, do visit the Avenue. It is quite worth your effort and is a must do destination that everyone should experience.

Drive attentive and safe. Hope to see you down the road. Pat

So from a historical perspective before the Ave was by-passed by today's 2x2 profile, it was the truck route for semi's. In fact i believe it wasn't until late 60,'s that cal trans finally and slowly started to double up lanes on some grades and other sections. Ave o t Giants has maintained it's width but with numerous pullouts. The whole ave js wonderful but imo the meyers flat to pepperwood is the traditional redwood grove that comes to mind. The further s towards and past garberville you see more oak and grassy meadows. Richardson Grove, the once midpoint stop between the bay area and Eureka Arcata is always a great spot on the Eel river.

[edit...don't forget to look for the high water mark posts. The river is well below the road grade. A good photo op.

I live nearby in Crescent City. It is easily drivable with tow behind. You will enjoy very much.

We were just out there last week from Atlanta. Unfortunately not with our AS We were driving through the Avenue at dusk when we saw some people pulled off on the side beneath a large grove of giants with their AS overnighting. Talk about envy!! Maybe that was you! So, yes, based on that sighting I would say it is a safe drive towing. I did not see any problems with it. Some trees were a little close to the road, but nothing too alarming. I would do it.

Have fun!

Avenue of the Giants

We drove it pulling our 30 ft Airstream a couple of years ago and do not recall it being challenging. Try not to miss the Stout Grove in Jedediah Smith State Park near Crescent City

Did it a couple years ago towing our 28’. No problems. Don't even recall any white knuckles.

We've done it twice puling our 28 ft. from north to south. No problems. As stated above, try to camp near Crescent City (Harris Beach State Park in Oregon is great) and visit the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park just outside of Crescent City. No RV's there as the only road is a narrow one laner that weaves between the redwoods.
