Austin TX to Picacho Peak AZ

We thought we would document our trip to the Four Corners Unit Picacho Peak New Years Rally.

First day of travel took us from our home base of Austin, TX to the mountains in west Texas. These first few photos are taken just west of Ozona, TX in route to Balmorhea State Park.

Balmorhea State Park (Balmorhea, TX)

We spent one afternoon and one night in Balmorhea State Park (Balmorhea, TX). A really interesting park in the west Texas desert that is at the foot of the Davis Mountains. This was our first time to see snow on the Davis Mountains and the view did not disappoint. The pool is a natural spring that stays at a constant temperaturs of 72 degrees (throughout the year). One of the photos attached here is taken under the water at the depth of 20 feet (beautiful clear water).

On to Bisbee, AZ

Day 2 we leave Balmorhea, TX and continue onward to Bisbee, AZ. Bisbee has been a really fun town to visit. Beautiful warm days (in the 70's) and pretty darn cold nights (into the low 30's). I think I recall seeing on a sign at the edge of town that the elevation of Bisbee is around 5600 feet. It's an old mining town with some great shops and restaurants. We're parked at the Queen Mine RV Park (and the RV park literally is at the very edge of a deep canyon ... which I would estimate close to a 1000 foot drop ... from where they have mined). The RV park is a lot nicer than it appears in the photos on their website.

Well aren't you two handsome! We've been slaving on the Airstream, and you hoodlems are drinking wine and gazing at stars. Drink one for us and keep the great photos coming. We're living vicariously. I shot Terry an email saying we're on for Hot Springs ... although, i think I said, Eureka Springs. Ditzy blonde. Have a ball and be safe. We miss you all!!!

Our last night on the road - Fort Stockton, TX

In route from Arizona back to Austin, we spent last night in Fort Stockton, TX. We stayed at the Hilltop RV Park. The owners of the park were absolutely some of the nicest and most welcoming people we have ever met! And what a spotless RV Park (great laundry room, beautiful pool, spotless bathrooms and shower suites). We will definitely stay there anytime our travels take us through Fort Stockton. The sunset was amazing. Attached are a couple of photos showing the sun setting on the mountains to the west and south of the Hilltop RV Park.

That's it. Rub it in out running around where it's warm, while we are home in the cold....

Glad you had a good time!

Bruce - Thanks for the information on the Easter Rally. We are hoping we can make the rally. Would be so much fun to camp with you both again!

Jeff / Cindy - Funny to get your message on the thread ... we talked all the way on the trip how we would have so much fun if you both had been with us. Get ready for that drive to Quartzite ... it was 18 long hours home for us!

Melody Ranch - thanks for the feedback. The trip was great but we sure are tired from the drive.

Kingfisher24 - It was so great to meet you both. As we stated in person ... we live through so many of your travel journals while we're stuck here at home working. Keep us posted of your travel plans back to TX ... hopefully it will allow us to camp together again!
