august trip midwest to east coast

We are tired from a month in China and other rigorous travels, and seek suggestions for an easy (cheap) trip from south Missouri to the Atlantic coast. Prefer state and national parks...antiques...folksy places...and being on the seashore. We are readers and music listeners...with a pet Cairn and no hurry. Thank you for suggestions of good spots to stop and look about. Leaving mid-August and want to be in the Carolinas in late September...pulling a 25' Safari. rjack and kay (and Abby)

Suggestions for northern TN

One of our all-time favorite stops was Historic Rugby, a Victorian utopian village in northeastern Tennessee. With your interest in antiques and books, you will surely enjoy a tour of this delightful town.

For a change of pace, tour Oak Ridge National Laboratory or visit the the American Museum of Science and Energy that has displays on the Manhattan Project.

Sorry, but I don't remember exactly where we camped while visiting the area.

We have relatives around Springfield and enjoy driving on Route 60 across southern Missouri.

Have a wonderful trip.

courtesy parking

Take advantage of courtesy parking along the way. You meet wonderful people who can usually let you know what sights to see along the way and point you in the direction of little known "gems" of museums or historic places.
Good luck on your trip. It sounds wonderful!
