People are attracted to shiny things..

I hired my brother to polish my 58 flying cloud. He spends more time being stopped by people and explaining the process then he does actually polishing. Good thing I am paying him by the foot and not by the hour!

During the 220+ miles, strIght up I-37/I-35, we were nearly run off of the road 3 separate times by other drivers that were looking at our rig. Numerous other times I noticed other drivers riding right beside the trailer. I could see them in my mirrors. They were all looking, or should I say gawking. I was running 65-70 mph most of the way. At first, I thought there was something wrong. So, I pulled over at a gas station to take a look. Everything was fine.

I finally came to the conclusion that we must be the finest looking thing on the road. Don't get me wrong. I'm not bragging. I definitely don't want that much attention.

From here on out I'll be sticking with the 2 lane roads in order to eliminate these situations.

Be careful out there. Most drivers are paying too much attention to other things instead of what they are doing. I usually say "They don't have time to drive".
You bought the wrong trailer if you want to avoid attention. Airstreams are head-turners where ever you go.

I have sometimes been bothered by folks on the interstate that will come up in the fast lane alongside the trailer and just seem to stay there!

No idea why they do, if it its to more closely examine the trailer, or if they just like to travel with company, but it somehow seems to annoy me!

When I get fed up with it, my method to bring it to an end, (although probably not the smartest thing to do!) is to let our trailer - albeit well in control with the Hensley - drift over into their lane and watch the results in my rear view mirror!

Probably thinking I am having control problems, my fast lane neighbour very quickly decides that the prudent thing to to is speed up or low down - either suits me fine!

My Mrs takes a dim view of my childishness, but I do like the way it works every time!

Brian.

flynmike, you talkin' to me?

It is the U.S. Government's V.I.P. Airstream onboard a C-130.

clewis, oh yes. Compared to an Airstream, driving a C-130 down the highway wouldn't attract much attention. Hardly any I would imagine.

I get a kick out of how people are drawn to Airstreams. But we've found that when people pass us and are trying to get a good look at our Bambi, they are LITERALLY drawn toward us ... and tend to drift toward us, getting uncomfortably close. I can't count the number of times we've had to pull further into the right hand part of our lane to avoid them coming WAY too close for comfort!

Thanks...there are two of those "Kits"....we have one at Travis Air Force Base and I actually think that pic might be in a KC10 (the airplane I fly)....can you post a pic on reply so I can see it bigger? I've never put one in my jet and there are only drawings of it in the flight manuals....thanks!

I think it would work around here.

Little Rock Air Force Base it the main C-130 training base. I see a lot more C-130s than Airstreams. Of course they are only near the highways, not actually on them.

That's too cool!

The airplane in those pics is a C-17. We can also put it in the KC-10 and the I think, the C-5...I don't know about the C-130. Looking at my Loading Manual for the KC-10 to load the "Joint Task Force/Command and Control Module" (that's what it's really called!) takes 14 pallet positions...(there's a bunch of stuff and people that go with it)...the C-130 has only 5 pallet positions...and a 6th if they use the tail gate.

Pretty cool though. I'd sure like to see it in person sometime. In 32 years in the Air Force (26 years flying) I've never seen it in use nor have any of my cohorts.

I have to retire next year...they only let enlisted guys do 33 years so maybe I'll see it in a museum one day.

Thanks to you guys for posting pics and links.

Mike

Thanks for straightening that out. (It's a C-17).
