While I use Verizon, I just read an article that indicates that AT&T has started to provide an unlimited, non-throttled data plan for cellular. It is bundled for buyers of a new Airstream. May be a great option for full-timers still working while on the road!

By the way, the unlimited plan from AT&T is one year for $360. So a $30/month unlimited with no throttling for tethering, hotspots or streaming is available when bundled with a new Airstream. On their other plans, AT&T has said unlimited applies up to 22GB/month, but indicated that that will not apply here.

According to the AT&T website, this is only available for 2019 Airstreams. I would totally sign up for this but my AS is a 2018. Missed it by that much (and not happy about it).

I didn’t read anything that limited the offer to only 2019 AS’s. I registered to receive additional information when it’s announced. I currently have a 8.5db gain omni directional Wi-Fi antenna that’s connected to a wireless router and would be interested in adding cellular capability

Airstream will be releasing a retrofit kit for non 2019 classic trailers to be installed by dealers, likely matched / registered to your vin. Should see it hit the market here in Q4.

The kit will likely include a cellular modem + WiFi network device, and an external cellular network antenna + cable.

The big questions (in my mind) are (1) will the SIM card be fixed to the modem chipset or will it be removable / with the ability to insert into a portable att hotspot radio device and (2) will the external cellular antenna Interface be a standard N-female coax port [emoji4]

AS just sent out an emailed newsletter that mentions this program. It sounds like any AS owner will be able to add this, but it must be installed by the dealer. The description suggests there will be no diy option, which would also eliminate buying it, yanking the SIM and then putting the SIM elsewhere without doing a full-on dealer installation of their hardware. We shall see.

Just a reminder that there is a longer thread on this same issue, and that the various replies in multiple threads [incl. a 3rd] are making for confusing reading.

Any chance of everyone going over to that longer thread? I have copied wulfraats reply over there.
