Asheville, NC campground recommendation

We are going to Asheville in a couple weeks, does anyone have a campground recommendation?
Thanks,
Greg

Mama Gerties Campground. 15 minutes from Asheville. Lovely place to camp and the views are second to none. Head for Black Mountain, 5 minutes away for great food and shopping.

What size parking spot, for the Interstate or a trailer?
Do you want full hookups?
Do you want something really close to town, or would you be willing to travel, say 30 minutes, for mountaintop views.

My favorite in that area is Mt Pisgah Campground, about 30 minutes outside of Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway. No hookups and some of the parking spaces are small. I'll be there for a few days early next week.

If you are down in the valleys expect 85-90 degrees in the afternoons, maybe higher. If you are up on the ridges expect the mid to low 80's.

For full hookups with a mountainside view just outside of Asheville, try Campfire Longings. This was our view last fall:

We've stayed at the KOA west a couple times on the way to or from Ohio. It's okay for a stopover, don't know how it would be for an extended stay. It's just off I40 west on the way to the mountains.

These earlier threads might contain some recommendations, but the info may be dated. We hope to get down to Asheville this fall. Sorry, but no current personal advice.

Mama Gertie's is a great spot. No pool if you need one. Views are great and very quiet. It is east of Asheville in Swannannoa. They are often full this time of year. Also consider Rutledge Lake which is in Fletcher about 15 minutes south of Asheville.

I second Campfire Lodgings! We stayed there last summer and it was great! Here is a shot of the view:

And, this is what the non-cliffside spots look like. I think the cost was $40 per night.

We have stayed at Bear Creek RV Park in Asheville a coupe of times - probably nowhere near as scenic as the others recommended, but very close to downtown Asheville, a great place to visit - quirky, lots of street musicians, interesting shops, lots of craft breweries etc.

If of interest to you , well worth visiting the very impressive Sierra Nevada Brewery at Mils River NC, just 20 minutes or so to the South. Tours are free but you need to reserve on line for the full tour - otherwise you can still drop in for a self guided tour and still worth doing!

Vanderbilt Mansion is expensive to tour but what the heck, its only money!

Brian.
