I hope we see you along the way. Look for us, Two maroon Chevy Duramax and two Airstreams, we will always be close to each other, #5311 and #5314. Enjoy the planning phase of your trip, that's half the fun.

I did last year...and will again next year since the current ice road out of Ninuvik will be gravel all the way to the Beauford Sea). So this is YOUR year. Consider the Cassiar access, but avoid the "Top of the World" highway (its a gravel and mud road with non-stop potholes out of Whitehorse (south end) or Chicken (north end). All else if passable. Its a great trip. Safe travels. jon

We're traveling with 6 other Airstreams from Central and Southern California. Plan to be in Dawson Creek on June 1st.

Currently in the midst of route planning and trailer/tv prep.

I'm gonna be looking for everyone. Hope to visit with everyone there. Sounds like the Airstreams will blanket the Far North.

Hopefully we're going Aug thru Sept, still ok weather but fewer tourists plus a bit better rates. Leaving the AS home and just using the ol pick em up with pop-top slide-in. We're going to do the Marine Hywy, the extra cost plus many ports can not handle trailer traffic. Then if all goes well maybe a cruise to see things from the other side. All great, health permitting. We'll have to invest in a "MY Other RV is an Airstream" bumper sticker...

If anyone has any questions about visiting the Fairbanks area feel free to send me a PM. We don't claim to know all the answers but glad to help if we can. We will be headed outside next week and driving back home the end of April but will have email along the way.

Hi from AZ. . . with respect to BOOmerang, Last year we did TOW in both directions, & loved it. Beautiful drive, Dawson City was maybe our favorite place on the trip, & no troubles. Chicken was a pretty serious let down. but the drive was great. It was dry & dusty one time, rainy & wet the other......it's a great trip, again for us '17. regards, Craig

Two rigs of us did the trip to Fairbanks then down to Denali Park, on down to Anchorage, Seward. Valdez, Homer, all the costal towns we could get to. Great roads in Alaska. We could not go through Chicken because floods took out the road. That is a very typical thing in the springtime, but repairs can last most of the summer. The only rough stretch is 100 miles this side of Alaska in Canada on the Alcan.

I've heard from people that did the 2014 Alyeska Caravan that the their trip on the Top of the World road was an unmitigated disaster. Trailers had their lots of interior damage because of the condition of the road. Driving was rather sketchy in poor weather. Not so sure that I'm convinced that the road would be fun.

Already purchased Ferry passage in April from Bellingham to Haynes to give ourselves a running start. Will haul our 22' Safari, Toad Hall ( I go where I'm towed) to Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage, et al. We realize that we are starting early from a weather standpoint - TV is a 4WD F-150. Reinforcing and adding guards over holding tank gate valves, and will replace FW tank drain valve with a flush plug. Considering 16 inch wheels and tires for better clearance. A year ago we purchased a new mattress, and praise it frequently.

We have had a lot of experience in Nat Parks, Burning Man, et al, so are reasonably well-prepared for boondocking - I installed a 140 Watt solar panel with oversized wiring (factory touted solar installation wire was simply inadequate), two 6-volt golf cart batts, plus a pair of 12 volt combo starting/deep-cycle spares; two inverters, and a spare water tank in the bed of the truck. I'll probably bring our 3 KW generator, hoping not to need it often. I just purchased a Garmin GPSMAP 64S for navigation assistance, as well as Mileposts, and a couple more local guide books.

The little things can be a drag - broken door shelves in the fridge, the CD player is mounted above the kitchen sink, and difficult to isolate speakers, or install headphones. Really should start over with a MP3 and smartphone-aux input- compliant stereo. We would like to install a nice recliner chair, but simply not enough interior footage, so it's used outdoors and carried in the truck.

We were on the 2014 Caravan and most rigs had no trouble on the Top of the World Highway. Some had problems on the paved highway between White Horse and Dawson City because they tried to drive too fast. The portion from Dawson City and Chicken is unpaved and you can't go fast so there was no problem on this section. Bottom Line is take your time and enjoy the scenery and you will have no problems.

Hey Gene, I thought that was you and Kathy I saw on the road to Carmacks, YT back in 2014, good thing you had Kathy with you she waved you did not.....(first Pic) Then when I saw you on the Blue Ridge Parkway, you were a bit more friendly. Good to see you and Kathy on AirForums. I believe that is y'all bringing up the rear, and if you look closely I think that is you walking across the parking lot at that Pullout Just outside Boone, NC on the Blue Ridge PKW.
