Any info on Minaret Falls Campground? Not much info on it but from what I've seen folks love it..no hookups. In looking at the map, road looks a bit challenging but other people have camped there in trailers and moho's. Thinking of going this summer. Or other Mammoth lakes suggestions..looking for boondocking near water or campground thats quiet with decent size spots.
Thanks

I've been several times, and you are right, the road down in is a challenge. It is quite steep but the switchbacks are the problem. They turn into a one lane turn and are very tight. There are park busses that go up and down the road, so if you meet one of them then I would hate to back up a 25 footer if there were cars behind you. That's the worst part. The camping is great with several campgrounds down there and you are right on the San Joaquin. There are bears and they WILL stop by and eat anything you leave outside. They don't like apple-cinnamin rolls for some reason......
Thanks for your response will leave the cinnamon rolls at home hehe. Hows the fishing? We really want to just fish and relax. The loose plan is to be on the road by 4 am and get there early to avoid traffic...however mapquest has a approx drive time of 5 hrs (not accounting for towing). Also once we are relaxed are there other things to do in the area? Looks removed from everything. Did you make rsvp or just show up? We also might stay someplace else a few nites then go check it out without the trailer and see if its doable. Im still a bit new at towing.

The fishing is very good. We've fished there in the San Joaquin, Owens and Walker. All are good. Water is going away fast since we didn't have much snow this year. It looks like August flows already. Mammoth is a good town, so is Bishop and Bridgeport. You may want to check out the road into the campgrounds first before you actually tow something in there. Plenty of places to camp up and down 395. Check out Sheeps Crossing to the east. Killer wrecking yards.
