Anyone been out to Gettysburg lately ??

Looking to make a short trip out to Gettysburg, Pa at the end of June for a couple of days. Can anyone recommend a nice quiet campground in the nearby area. Looking for hookups this time but not one of the big RV parks if I can help it. Don't need many amenities just a nice quiet place.

Thanks all. Appreciate your input.

Going to be hard to find "Quiet"

Because of the dates of the actual Battle, there are generally very large crowds of historians and "re-enactors" and other tourists who pour into Gettysburg for July 1st "kickoff" of anniversary of start of battle.

If you haven't been, try to make reservation now for Park Service Guide that will ride with you in your vehicle and tour/explain the battlefield. Worth every cent they charge, and no other form of seeing battlefield comes close to experience...

WE went last year and stayed at an RV park about 7 minutes away. One of the best RV parks I have ever stayed at. Sorry but I can't think of the name. They have a pool, lots of trees, a store, arcade, volley ball, concerts. It was awesome. Just do an internet inquiry and it should come up.

Gettysburg KOA is small quite and well shaded, a prime consideration in June. A bit pricy.

One thing you want to put on your list is a lunch in the basement of the Dubbin House and or a dinner upstairs, depending on the number and age of the kids.

You can buy a CD in the visitors center and drive the battlegrounds at you own pace. It is set up in sequence from the first shot to the end.

Was up there twice looking for a nice place to stay in the past month (only an hour south) and the KOA is the nicest, the other parks are closer but dusty and only really ok if you plan to stay in your stream after visits.

Yes I'm picky, so I will reiterate, fine to stay in but other than the KOA, I wouldn't be there if not for Gettysburg...

And for places - Dubbin House is nice but Farsworth Inn is a must!

I remember where we stayed and we liked it. Close to the town of Gettysburg. Check out the link

If you don't mind a short drive to Gettysburg, there is Codorus State Park (about 18 miles from Gettysburg) just east of Hanover, PA. It's a nice spot with a big lake. They don't have full hookups but do have sites with electricity and there is a dump station. Pennsylvania State Parks - Codorus - PA DCNR

Thanks for the input. I know the dates of the "Battle". But I had neglected to make the connection and may have to re-think some plans. Will be going out to Kansas for 10 days or so. Will work on it while out there. I think we can manage to get in and out before 1 July though. Maybe beat the rush. Will think about that State Park campsite though. We can do mid-week so just might be able to do it.

Thanks again,
