Last year, we bought a ThermaCell lantern. It does the trick around the campsite.

Mosquitoes don't travel far and as a result their numbers vary locally depending on habitat and other factors. The hills and rivers have fewer of them than the flatlands and lakes, let alone the swamps. There are a few parks and campgrounds in southeastern Minnesota that don't have many mosquitoes, and so I plan the midsummer trips to those places.

You can spray for them if they're enough of a nuisance. If you spray a 20' wide donut around the trailer with permethrin or another insecticide listed for the purpose their numbers will decline considerably.

Otherwise I find that DEET is the only thing that really works.

I just spoke to my husband tonight...and he was working on the rig this week and he told me that the wind had died down today so the gnats, came out and that all of the guys working had their spray bottles out and then they were fine for the rest of the day.

Inside the trailer....

Inside the trailer we've used the dryer sheets in drawers and storage places with great success over the years. Makes the stuff stored there smell good too. No creepy crawlies in our trailer. Of course, it helps to keep the food particles cleaned up .

One has to wonder if the products mentioned in this thread can be so harmful to the critters mentioned, how can they not be harmful to us and our kids. Google them with the word toxic or cancer and it may be revealing.

There are ways to deal with pests without chemicals and some very good ones have been mentioned. My personal experience is breathing problems and cancer that may be linked to my own use. I now keep my family away from them as much as possible.

The Herbaria soap is all natural citronella, marigold, etc.----smells rather nice and is a repellent, not a killer.

I share your concerns, dkottum, about Deet, etc., but have used it myself on occasion when fighting swarms of mosquitoes. They can carry disease, DEET can be harmful----hard to win.

Hey Fotochop, think our local Dr. Tichenor's would be a good recommendation? The company makes a gel now that Walgreen's carries. It works great for curing ivy itch and bug bites!

Well 3blessed if it would not kill them it sure will clean out their sinus passage. Dr Tichenor's is very strong. I always have a bottle at home, it is the clean all/kill all i guess.

Maggie

Bought 3 bars and can't wait to give it a try, Thank-you.

Also, gonna try the bounce thing. Man those sheets are waaay strong. Overpowering strong. Had them in a baggie and stunk up the whole Steram. Decided to put them in the tackel box. I'll use those as a last resort.

Also bought that 3 bottles of that Victoria Secret stuff. I'll give that a try, also.

Another thing I saw was those thremocells, gonna use that if the other don't work. The independant reviews looked promising.

Thanks for the help.

Shane
