Any Good Suggestions for Austin Tx RV parks?
I'm headed for Austin Tx soon with Safari in tow - any good suggestions for an RV Park in that area? Would like to stick close to the city but steer clear of the airport.
Thanks in advance!

Do you need full hookups?
If you don't need full hookups, McKinney Falls State Park is fairly nice - but water/electric only - no sewer hookup.
Its south of town: TPWD: McKinney Falls State Park
We've stayed there once. It was nice - even in the winter.
We're also looking for a nice place to stay - we have kids in Pflugerville (north of Austin). If you find something, please post it here.
Our problem is we don't like tight-packed commercial parks that look like an airport parking lot. We prefer some space and greenery.
Good luck.

Vaughn - NOBODY gets in Pecan Grove on any sort of short notice. Very long waiting list last I heard. Heck, they wouldn't even let GHWB in even when he enjoyed some degree of popularity many years ago. I think they probably DID make an exception for some young Hollywood actor tho. But that was only good advertising.

Pecan Grove
I will second the vote for Pecan Grove. It is kinda "quirky" and a little bit old, but is a little slice of Austin. Right off Barton Springs, maybe 10 minutes from I-35 and even less to downtown. Walking distance to several restaurants and clubs with live music if that is your thing. Not much further to a big park.
Always a pretty good number of other airstreams of all vintages there it seems.
It can be challenging to get in at times. If you do go, remember they take cash or checks only. No credit cards. Also, for a high tech town, the park has no wi-fi available. If you are near the front, you might be able to get online through one of the restaurants that has open access, but don't count on it. Last time I was there, I got consistantly good speeds with an at&t HSDPA card. I was just on the fringe of getting a reliable wi-fi signal.

I called Pecan Grove and successfully made a reservation this morning. Since we need mid city access it is perfectly situated for us. Thanks for the good responses...and it looks like McKinney Falls is a nice park to visit on another trip.

I will agree that you were lucky to get in. It is always in demand. In the past, I knew a couple of people who lived there. There is good dining in the area, and be sure to check out the oriental garden in Zilker Park.

Sorry I got to this late, but the others steered you right. Pecan Grove is a great place near some funky neighborhoods and restaurants. Access to downtown is excellent. Have fun!

Try Mobile Manor RV park on Barton Springs Rd. ((512) 327-0703) - right in between Chuys and Baby Acapulco's... Kevin & Prim Li (Bambibandit) have their "weekend" quarters there for when they're downtown... Not as tight as Pecan Grove and on restaurant row.
Pecan Grove is at 1518 Barton Springs Rd., so they're neighbors... Anyway, Pecan Grove as been bought by developers and they're fixin' to build, or before the **crash** were going to build, yet another yuppiefied "urban" hi-rise condo... so no tellin' how much longer they have to go...

Sorry TD, just saw this question.
Since I live here, that means I don't really ever stay here in an RV so I don't know the parks that well. I do know of a decent one out East, near the intersection of 183 and MLK. That's as far East as you're talking about, but further South. It's called Oak Forest RV Park.
Oak Forest RV Park - Austin, Texas United States RV Campground
I went out and looked at an Airstream to buy that was stored out there, and the place seemed pretty nice. The Airstream was in good shape too, a '68 Overlander with some nice renovations, but the owner was VERY proud and was asking way too much.
Good luck!

We came to Austin 29 years ago with our Airstream in tow. We stayed at Pecan Grove RV Park. Its close to down town, parks and restrarants.
We used to walk to the Armadillo World Headquarters (its long gone).

Oops - late post
Sorry I'm coming into this late. I bet you came and left already. In fact, I bet I saw you pull out last weekend??? If you had a Dodge pulling you then I saw you as I was walking our girls down Lamar.... You dont see new airstreams come thru downtown Austin that often....
If you are still in town, let us know and we can show you guys around or give you some places to check out.
PM me if you need anything.
Jaxon, The Park I'm at is monthly only.... too bad... (and they will not let me sublet)
Pecan Grove will give them a nice taste of Austin before the Condos come....

Our stay at Pecan Grove was this past Memorial Day weekend. The park was full, mostly with residents and stored RVs & trailers. Many Airstreams there too. It looked like they only have a handful of spaces available for overnight rental due to the near capacity of permanent units. But, all in all, Pecan Grove was the perfect location for us. The park is very quiet, although it's right in the middle of town on Barton Springs at Lamar. We thought there might be a lot of traffic noise or loud music from the restaurant next door but it was nice and quiet throughout the night. There's a good italian restaurant next door...I think it was named Romeo's. We ordered some take out pizza and pasta for dinner and dined in the Safari. The Pecan Grove folks are very friendly and welcoming. I give it a thumbs up for inner city lodging.

We're going to a 3 day wedding event in downtown Austin and we have reservations at Pecan Grove. Thanks for the heads up on cash/credit card thing, were you able to get wi-fi?

I paid with cash by the way. It was $30 for one night. I didnt' take my laptop so didn't have a chance to try the wi fi. We also left our TV at home so we didn't use the cable hookup.

Thanks anyway, good to know it's a good place. I recently found out that Panera Bread also has free wi-fi, unfortunately Austinites aren't big on chain restaurants! I'm also looking for suggestions on places to see/things to do/parks to stay, on the next leg of the journey from Austin to Minneapolis, MN~any ideas?
