Another lost rear access door Fredericksburg Texas

We lost our rear access door on our 1968 Ambassador between Fredericksburg Texas and Johnson City Texas yesterday. I went back to help Glenn back up at the campsite and no door and it has our license plate attached. We have given police reports to both area Police stations and we did stop at a Johnson City Airstream restorer who was very helpful and put a piece of Aluminum in the hole, did a great job but we are without a license. So just a shout out, make sure that rear access door is locked and if you find ours pm me.

Bummer. I put chains on all of my doors. I know in time I would lose one otherwise.

Probably better than chains...

But I had the chain already.

Thanks for the ideas, now we have to get the new door and a license plate. We will look at putting a safety chain on it and a good lock.

A stretched bungee to the back of the for will help keep attached too.

We shall be driving back to San Antonio end of May and Enchanted Rock is on our list. I'll keep my eyes open for you. Meanwhile I hope it is found before that. A friend of ours on Airstream Addict lost hers somewhere in AZ, then four months later another Airstream Addict found a door in another place in AZ, (not hers), and sent it to her. Was a great story showing how we take care of each other.

Teresa,
You might want to contact the scrap metal dealers in the area. Someone might want to scrap your door for a few bucks.

We are on it!

In Marble Falls now. Will be traveling 290 shortly and will be on the lookout.

Will advise what we find.

Fingers crossed.

happy Trails ( we hope)

Way back we used to file the flange off the door and add a stainless piano hinge to the top of the door so they could not disappear if they came open.

Blue Pearl,

Sorry for the delay in response, but we sent you the results of our searching for your lost door on US 290 from Johnson City to Fredericksburg yesterday.

For whatever reason I am not seeing our reply to you. When I tell someone I am going to do something I try to follow through or at least respond I can't.

We did not see your door. However, on the East bound side of 290 there are several steep embankments that could have hidden the door panel from view. The West side of 290 is visible for the majority of the distance.

I will be traveling that road tomorrow and will try to examine those steep embankments more closely. Loosing that door panel is like loosing a child, so I know what your are feeling.

If you had a bit more information about which park you were in and the path you took out of town that would be helpful.

I know several folks in Fredericksburg in the recycling business and I will check to see if anyone has exchanged a nice long panel with a need handle and a license plat in the middle of is.

Also, FYI the folds in Fredericksburg are some of the best you will ever meet. Don't be surprised if you get a call from someone asking if you lost something and assist getting it back to you.

Again, I don't know what happen to my message back to the Forum. Guess my thoughts were not pure and the Forum gremlins did not approved of the post and axed the message.

Happy Trails

Still no police reports that our door has been found. Thank you so much jekerrville and everyone else who is keeping their eyes open. We are getting a new Oregon license plate next week so at least we will be legal as we head down the road.
We were camped at Pedernales state park, just east of Johnson City. We checked that road as we came out. We don't know how it jumped out of the track unless we forgot to lock it. We have talked about adding a hinge to the door and if it doesn't return home the new one will have a hinge or safety cord for sure.
