An App For The iPad That's Worth Getting The iPad (almost)

Bought this app just before a two week (plus) road trip.

Basically it shows what campgrounds are available at any given location, and directs you to their web site. And for the missus, ALL WalMarts were pointed out too.

It was very accurate, and gave us a GREAT reason to get rid of the 10 lb. book that Woodalls publishes.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/camp-rv/id370820516?mt=8

We won't leave home without it!

I bought this app for my iPad and have found it very useful so far! It seems to be quite complete as well.

Yep, I downloaded it, too. Worked through several trip planning scenarios and am very pleased with the level of detail and complete information furnished. It also shows overhead clearances for those running tall rigs. A great bargain at $6.00.

I wouldn't trust them 100%. We've been trying for weeks to get them to change some things (including the phone number) on our listing there, and we get absolutely no response from them. Not too impressive.

I have this APP. Maybe if you do not get them to change things we could start to leaving negative reviews of the APP on the Apple Store.

Numbers are the only thing internet advertisers understand.

That goes for any ipad or iphone app in my book. And GPS for that matter! I still take a map and compass when I goes backpacking. Can't get lost with one of those...

To trust anything like this 100% is probably unwise.

I would strongly suggest you, as one that's included in their recommendations, that you go to their web site and give them a 1 star review (as opposed to 5 stars).

In the scheme of things, reviews (not actual numbers) are what drive purchases of things like this. By identifying yourself in the review, readers will come to their own conclusions.

Oh, I probably won't bother. If you look around on the web, there are literally hundreds of sites that purport to provide campground information, generally by getting visitors to look at their ads or even to pay for the service. A good number of them write to campground operators offering some kind of "premium" service for pay. Nearly all of them contain glaring omissions and outright errors.

I used to try to get at least our listing corrected on as many sites as possible, but it was a pointless task. Now we don't bother with any of them except Woodalls and Trailer Life, both of which send reps here yearly. (AAA used to do that, but now they've contracted with Woodalls to handle their stuff.)

I know about Woodalls and TL, and their customer service (at least Woodalls) is handled by folks who know the business.

I think you're missing an important point, and you've kind of alluded to it with your comment about AAA. Print media is becoming less relevant. Folks are becoming more and more comfortable with multi-media.

With the popularity of Apple's iPad, companies who do applications like the one I used are going to gain top of mind share over the print publications rapidly.

Once again, I would encourage you to submit a review, and be sure to identify yourself as a vendor and note the fact that the company is slow to respond to your calls to correct THEIR errors.

If anything gets a company's attention, it's bad reviews.

Just in case anyone is not aware, both Woodall's and Good Sam (TL) offer free apps - I have them both on my ipod Touch and they seem to work fine.

Does the paid app offer something that these don't?

Brian.

--An app that lists all National, State and Local campgrounds in the US and Canada-- I tend to stay at city campgrounds as I travel to my destinations. I have never been disappointed. I use the Campwhere app ($4.99) and has all these with colored dots by type.

City campgrounds are green dots. I can find them easily based on my location. City campgrounds almost never have reservations, are mostly the honor system as far as paying and taking care of your site. No reservations usually but there is a phone number listed in Campwhere--usually these calls go to a City Office so only are answered weekdays.

For those that stay at State campgrounds--this is the best app. It does not have any private campgrounds at all.
