Amused?

Is anyone else as amused as I am by the rvbookstore.com selling new 2005 Wal-Mart Locators? Who are the people that spend $19.95 plus tax, for this thing? Don't they know you can buy a Wal-Mart version Rand McNally atlas, at Wal-Mart that has all the information on all the stores all across the country? And all for only $4.97 plus tax?
What information in that book is worth the extra money?

I wouldn't pay anything to know where a Wal Mart is located.

You'll find us parked overnight at a Walmart

Yes, I've also wondered why folks would purchase a Walmart locator. I have the Wal-Mart version Rand McNally atlas but find the best resource for locating any overnight parking while on the road is "The Next Exit". It's well worth it's cost as we have been able to travel up and down the east coast knowing what exits offer gas, food and overnight parking. I believe I got the 2005 edition for under $10.00.

And I'm sure it breaks in down into locations that you can or can't park over night in right? I'll keep a free copy, with my first aid kit.

Yes Coastalview, businesses that allow overnight parking are highlighted in red. We always ask permission though, in case the book is wrong or the truth has changed since the book was published last.

The WalMart overnight parking spree is about to end.. many Walmarts are now banning overnight parking, with sever penalties for anyone parking. We saw four such places on the way here - though we did stay in one Walmart, with the manager's permission, in Texas. The local walmart here though, has no overnight parking.

In many cases it's not WalMart's choice. In our neck of the woods, the local municipalities have noticed the overnighters and are cracking down based on zoning codes. While WalMart is placing the signs, its at the bequest of the city fathers. I've seen this happen at two WalMarts and a Sams Club. All within 7 miles of my home, each in a different municipality.

Free Wal-mart locator

Why pay for a locator when there is a free locator on Al Gore's internet?
http://www.walmartwatch.com/locator/...section_id=106
For 3 bucks, you can order a list of Walmart locations that do not allow overnight Rv parking:
http://www.cojoweb.com/rv-wal-mart-parking.html (probably out of date by now).
I expect that the Wal-mart slugs (http://www.freecampgrounds.com/slugs.html) will eventually cause all Walmart locations to prohibit free RV stays, but I personally don't give a hoot. I figure if I can't afford a legitimate camping spot I should not have an Airstream clamped to my behind when I'm traveling.
