What wonderful places you all have been! And we have been to some of them. But this coming year, we plan to explore our own state. About a third of Missouri is National Forest land with beautiful lakes and mountains, and we want to see it first. With maybe a side trip to Sonoma, California where our daughter lives (in a National Forest).

Don't forget Woody
In the squares of the city
by the shadows of the steeple
Near the relief office
I saw my people
And some were stumblin
and some were wondering if
This land was made for you and me
As I went ramblin
that dusty highway
I saw a sign that said
private property
On the other side
it didn't say nothin
This land was made for you and me.
Nobody livin
can ever stop me
As I go walkin
my freedom highway
Nobody livin
can make me turn back.
This land was made for you and me.

Our favorite place "close to home": http://www.airforums.com/forums/764900-post371.html
The mountains of North Ga, Western N Carolina & Eastern Tennessee. Cool in the summer, beautiful in the fall.

You mean during the War of Northern Aggression? I, too, toured the Gettysburg Museum, and later the battlefield itself. It made me cry. No joke, I cried like a baby. All those brave men dying.

There are so many places.. Its been said, but take Route 66, the WHOLE way. Old highway 40, or the Lincoln Highway, starting in Lincoln Park in San Francisco, overlooking the Golden Gate- traditionally started by dipping ones toes, or tires, in the Pacific. Take the old highways; travelling over the two lane roads across the country, through towns, stopping to grab a bite, is how you see real America. Route 1 up the California coast is amazing, visiting the tiny towns along the way and really seeing the distinct culture from one place to the next. Thats how I like to travel.

128 East out of Moab, Utah
We drove through this area this morning, which is marked as a scenic route and runs along the eastern border of Arches National Park.
This is one of the most beautiful areas we have ever seen, with the Colorado River snuggied into brick-red canyon. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Best of all, the area is peppered with BLM and NP campgrounds, a number of which are right on the river bank. Perfect for not-so-large trailers and campers, especially those with solar panels.
We are on the move toward home, so had to settle for marking it on the map for a return visit.

Maybe someone else has said this, but touring the US or anywhere really, so much of the adventure is getting to know people you meet along the way
