A 31 Would be out at the upper campground. May be OK at the lower campgrounds. There is also a private campground below the NP.

The lower campground would have room for your 31, and it's no problem getting to the lower campground.

Just to put in a plug for my home town. 3rd Weekend in October is Punkin Chunkin weekend. Watch Punkins fly for almost a mile. Also carnival and parade. I have 40 acres yu can camp on.

I made a proposal to move the Balloon Festival to Estancia so we could shoot pumpkins at them but it did not fly.

Thanks Lumatic and Stan. I'm gathering info with the hope of "out west" vacations during the next few years in semi retirement.

There are parts of 50 that are beautiful. West Virginia (I believe) was one of the good parts, with nice views, although the road was pretty twisty. I was on a motorcycle, so it was a good thing.
Then there are parts of 50 that are not so nice. I'm from Missouri, so I will say it. I like to take highway 36 across Missouri, (through Hannibal, see the Mark Twain stuff). I-70 is very busy with lots of 18 wheelers, 50 goes through too many small towns, and unless you are really on a slow pace, slows you down too much. Coming through St Louis and Kansas City especially. Now, once you get out into Kansas, I prefer highway 50. Not that many towns to slow you down (20-30 mph) and more open scenic views. Same with Colorado. I like 50 for Colorado also.
If you go across 50 in Missouri, visit Herman Mo along the Missouri River in eastern Mo, and if you can, drive through the Lake of the Ozarks during the week, or very early in the morning. Friday evening, and most of Saturday's can be very crowded and traffic comes to a crawl. Beautiful areas around there though.
Hope this helps. I travel a lot on business, that may be influencing me a little.

Small towns add to the experience, we are not in a hurry.

I agree that staying off the Interstate and exploring the back roads is worth the journey. But I suggest that there are more interesting sights than just the nostalgia of the Lincoln Highway. Arrow Rock, MO is the start of the Santa Fe Trail. Lexington Battlefield from the Civil War, Jesse James home, Fort Scott KS, Pony Express Stations in Marysville & Hollenberg KS. Dodge City museum is kitschy but filled with great historical memorabilia. And don't miss the biggest ball of twine!

It's the journey, not the destination...

I will second what Gettinaway said about Hermann, MO. It's worth the stop. There is a nice city park there with full hookups and it's a dear little town. The Stone Hill winery has a nice tour and there is a good little German restaurant there. There is a very good bakery in town, within walking distance of the park. We discovered Hermann when we followed the route of Lewis and Clark's Voyage of Discovery several years ago.

Thanks for the tips. We're going to be coming from St Louis and flow some of these suggestions. Think we'll do 50 and 94 and stop at Dutzow and Herman to fill our German food desired and for the scenery and slower travel.

Followup: We ended up not following US 50 exactly, but spent a lot of time on the Santa Fe Trail in Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico. Really enjoyed a day in downtown Omaha, the Homestead National Monument (Beatrice, Nebraska), the Santa Fe Trail Museum (Larned, KS), and the Pecos National Monument (Glorieta Battlefield section) in New Mexico. Also loved Bandelier National Monument near Los Alamos and, of course, the Balloon Fiesta.
