Read that article, that`s a shame they had no warning, and lost so many people.
Hurricane Charley tore up a camp ground in Arcadia, but the people had warning and spent the time in the bathhouses,no one was hurt, but some mangled trailers. Dave

Here's the coordinates: 34.37281,-93.87942

Here's another story: Ark. campers had only seconds to escape from flood - Yahoo! News

You're right, they had seconds...

There really isn't anything you can do

Being in the area, this is all over the local news. The lives lost, families touched, and damage was tragic. The pictures and videos that are coming out of the area show the incredible strength and speed of the flash flood. I can't imagine being sound asleep in my tent on the side of a stream and wake to feel the tent rolling down the river.

Some reports show the water rose over 20 feet in a matter of 6 hours

Robert

Does anyone else know people that were there. The three friends that we lost would have been camped in the new section before the carwash bridge. I wonder if most of the fatalaties came from that area being it is usually occupied by RV's.
There names are Kay, Bruce, and Debbie Roeder.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friends, aaumpine.

What a terrible tragedy, and what a grim reminder to be ever mindful of where and under what conditions you are camping.
