Alaska with a cargo ship return option

Recently discussed Airstreaming with a new colleague who is a Rep for a well known shipping outfit. His client has a great deal of empty space departing Anchorage, Alaska twice per week - high quality roll-on-roll-off covered and secure below decks transport on TOTE - Totem Ocean Trailer Express. I used them to bring my AS to Alaska from Tacoma.

I am posting to see if there is much interest in the community to tour to and around Alaska and then ship your AS stateside at a cut rate while you either linger in Alaska for a few days and fly down to meet your rig in Tacoma, or head south immediately and visit a few days until the ship arrives. "Backhaul" rates are much less than northbound.

I'll also post this in another forum. Looking forward to your thoughts.

What kind of rate from Anchorage to Seattle or Vancouver and how long does it take? We have been thinking about that dilemma also...don't really want to drive round trip. Who do you contact on more info? Do they also take passengers also or just cargo?

I'll check on rates through Richard and see what he can say at this point. The vessel takes a couple of days to make the trip, + for poor weather. But the weather across the gulf is typically fine for the trip through the end of September, middle of October.

No need to wait for me to check, though. 907-276-5868 gets the Anchorage Office. However, if enough interest develops - our desire is to negotiate a special rate for the Airstream family.

We are interested. Can we ride down on the ship. Reviewing the YouTube on TOTE it appears that they do have cabins for guess.

sent in request for quote. Did not see any info on renting cabins on the website...thinking it would be great to ride along if there are cabins...also, anyone know the situation when they arrive, assuming you can not ride along on the ship. I am thinking likely you drive your rig on to the ship, then get to an airport and fly to Seattle, get to Tacoma when ship arrives or can/do they load and off load. If your not riding along, could be a long day at both ends of the trip? Would be great if there were a lot of ASers going for sure...we are thinking drive up there and ship back. Looking at sometime in mid Aug/early Sept.

I’d like to have the same information. Thanks.

Wow....this is great info!! I would certainly be interested if they can take a larger motorhome. I need 11' clearance. Will check out their website next. Looked into the regular ferry run by the state and they stay booked all summer plus its expensive too. However, they did have cabins to available at extra cost.

Interest too

As nonagenarians we have contemplated the trip but have been reticent to do so, fearing the return. Having the possibility of not having to drive and at a reduced rate is inviting!
Sounds like the way to end a dream. Keep us posted,
thanks
