Alabama Coast

I would like to spend a few days along the Alabama coast. I did some searching but was unable to find any info about Alabama. Has anyone been to the Gulf State Park within the last month? I understand they have been fixing it up. Any opinions on this park? Any other suggestions along the Alabama coastline? I also want to make my way to the Pensacola area to see the Blue Angels practice. I'll be leaving on the 6th of May. Thanks

We were in Gulf Shores the last week of March and the state park is closed and may not reopen until next year. Saw very little work going on at the park. Would suggest Luxuary RV Resort nice park with paved sites and close to the beach. We stayed in Sun Runners RV park which is 5 miles from the beach and is very quiet but needs some updating and clean up.

Gulf Shores is rebuilding

My wife and I took our new 28' CCD International on it's maiden voyage to Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, AL in March 05. The park was devastated by the hurricane in the latter part of 04. However, the good news is that they are rebuilding. Every camp site was destroyed, but the bathrooms came through unscathed. The park is now rebuilding each campsite. As of March there were 100 new campsites done. They are really redoing the sites correctly. New blacktop and water and electricity outlets. The sites are very nice. Unfortunately the park itself is dismal. The trees are pretty well gone or dying. Lots of standing water and fallen trees. The scenery isn't pretty but it will grow back. The sites should be even better than before. The towns in the area are trying to rebuild, but in some cases it is slow. They will be back to par, but it will take time. The park should be even better that before, but it will take time.
