Airstream Sightings while Travelling

My wife and I just completed a 2,000 mile round trip from Vancouver, BC to Lethbridge, AB and points between. Being summer we thought we would see at least several Airstreams/Argosy's on the road. Sadly, we saw one of each on the road in over 36 hours of driving. In addition there were 3 Argosy's parked in yards (one, a 6 metre Minuet is for sale in Lethbridge = I have the phone number if anyone is intersted - it's clean and looks not bad at all), one Airstream, and in Lethbridge three mid seventies Airstreams at used RV dealers lots. Is it that we are in Western Canada that we saw so few? In other travels this summer through out BC and Washington seeing just one on the road was a treat and other than those who attended the Mt Baker Tin Can Tourists event we never saw two at any one time. A surprise was the number of SOB vintage trailers on the road though with a rough estimate at 30% of those being towed being 70 and older and many of them 50's. What are you seeing in your travels?

Timely thread!

We're in Great Falls, MT ... a '76 International from Saskatchewan just pulled in today. The owner just retired from the RCMP in Regina ... and is the original owner ... bought it 29 years ago this week. The trailer is in great shape.

Last week a new 2005 Safari was here for 2 days ... they were from Texas ... on their way to the Candaian Rockies.

Have to admit ... it is pretty rare when we see an AS on the road.

Post One or two spotted each week

Up here in Meeshigan we see one or two per week. Last weekend there were so many heading north for a WBCCI in the Mackinaw City area that our arms got tired from all the waving...

I just finished a 6009 mile trip from Ohio to Tucson, to Yellowstone, and back. I saw two airstreams, one Argosy on the road, and one in a campground near Cortez, CO, and another in St. Louis. I thought I'd have seen a few more.

We travel often in the Traverse City/ Sleeping Bear dunes area of Michigan. Always wondered why we almost never saw an airstream in the park or out and about.......then one day we saw the gleam of lots of aluminum. They are all at Holiday Park Airstreamers park on US 31. Nice place, small lake, big trees. Really, really, really cheap storage!!! Last year it was $25/month...we left it all summer to save wear and tear on the 'ol sovereign going back and forth from Ohio. It worked out great!

Unhappy

We only count what we call "the live Airstreams" traveling on the road. We counted six from central California to the Oregon boarder than NONE thru Oregon, Washington, Victoria BC and not one live one, all the way back.

CW Mesa, AZ

I saw one waiting for service at CW in Mesa, AZ this week. I could not locate the owner. Does this count as a sighting? It appeared to be a late 90's Excella.

When I was heading out to Arizona from Maryland, in May, I took I-40 across, then I-17 South to I-10. Nada Airstreams. When I got to Phoenix, I had to turn around and come home, because Sherri's prognosis had gotten worse. I took I-10 to 20 to 30 to 40. I didn't see a single Airstream the entire time, and I looked for them too. Very bizarre.

Hey 65GT, great Bristol photos!

We were also at Bristol this past weekend, stayed at Farmer Bob's. Great views from your campsite. A couple came over to our camper on Thursday asking the year, etc. They were camped a couple rows away from us in a mid-70's unit. I invited them in to take a look at the inside of our unit and received a nice compliment about the condition and look of the birch cabinets. You meet the nicest people in Airstreams!

Maybe we should try to coordinate a mini-Airstream rally for one of the upcoming Bristol races! I couldn't think of anything better than "racin' the way it ought to be" and an army of these silver beauties amongst all the other SOB's.

My ... how things change in just a few days. We're in Boseman, MT at the KOA ... not too bad of a place.

When we pulled in ... we spotted a Caravelle right away ... and right behind us was a 30' Classic w/Slide. They ended up right next to us ... and get this ... their names are Will & Grace. Nice folks from Aspen, CO.

Also, a '93 34-footer pulled in this afternoon and set up right behind us. This place is starting to look like an Airstream Rally.

We're on our last night out of a 3.5 month trip to Alaska and back and in a KOA in Van Horn, Texas. Greeting us in the campground was a gorgeous '73 or so, very shiny silver 'stream. Don't know enough about the vintages to know exactly what it is, but it is ver-r-r-y shiny. We haven't seen many A/S on our trip...one every so often...and it is a point of excitement when we do.

We just got back from a trip to Door County Wisconsin. Saw 3 southbound trailers on I-55 as we were heading north towards Bloomington Il. No others after that point.

Once up in the campground we ended up seeing two other units just down from our site. The first was a new '05 International owned by a couple from Minneapolis. Interesting enough they pulled out one of my posts on what to wash your Airstream with. Also met another couple next to them from Illinois with a vintage unit that is in the process of restoration. A couple of pictures of their trailer. Last picture is Patty and our site.

Last April and May we did a five week trip from So Calif. to Missouri then to Yellowstone and back to So Calif. Saw 60 Airstreams parked and or traveling. We count everyone seen. We are currentky in Fairbanks AK on a three month trip from So Calif to AK and back. So far we have seen 63.

We had an electrical problem with our 2004 Safari in Tok AK. Jim Parret at Aristream was sxtremely helpful by authorizing a repair at a non Airstream shop.

Today andtonight we saw Mt. Denali and the Northern Lights. This is a rare bit of luck as we are told both are difficult to see anytime let alone in one day.

Wow, some of you are travelling in areas where there are quite a few units. We were excited as heck this weekend on a road trip where we saw two being pulled (one seventies and the other looked brand new), and two in yards and one of those would at very best be a parts trailer. It had been painted white on the roof and that was peeling and did not look like it was being used. The other looked like it was being used from time to time but not recently. No one home so we will have to check back.

Love to watch them coming down the road at us, and following one is a real treat. Since none of the folks we tow with have an AS it's few and far between that we get to see one ahead of us and tag along for a while.

we've been on the road for 86 days and have seen 5 other airstreams in campgrounds we've parked in.

we drove by a bunch in people's driveways between santa fe, NM and and taos.

...and pulled over for this great old bambi:

we too thought we would have seen more.

We're on the tail end of a 2,400 mile trip and in 10 days on the road we've encountered a total of 13 Airstreams both rolling and in our various camping locations! There are three of us in the same park this evening! Our route has taken us East on I-30, I-40 and I-81. In Texas on I-30, we saw a pretty little Argosy that was for sale. If anyone is interested in the exact location I can provide that for you by mile marker on request. I'd post it now but need to download all kinds of notes from my digital recorder first. Hope to add more 'Streamer sightings to the count on the final day of our journey.

We passed an Airstream with a license plate that rang a bell. I'm almost positive it was Suzzeee from this forum. I put a picture up on her thread about the trip that she took that would put her on southbound I-5 in northern California at the same time we were there. For a link to the post with a picture, go here
