We are nearing our departure for a 4 year global trek. I have yet to meet any other Airstreamers who actually use their Airstream for true expedition service. I'd be interested in networking with other like minded users.
Not to offend anyone, but it seems to me, that most AS are used to camp in pristine RV parks, and then waxed Sunday afternoon before going back to work.

What happened to Wally's followers? I want to hear from people who go to the far corners of this marble and bring home real travel photos!

While we've been on what I'd consider, some long trips (Alaska twice, and recently the Northeast) not many people have the time or resources ($) to take overseas trips.

Please provide US with some pictures of yours, and while you're at it, please describe the travels to include handling the parts that most of us wouldn't know how to begin to do, like the problems associated with transporting a rig, oh I don't know, maybe to Japan.

Well, enjoy your trip. You're lucky to have the time & resources to make such an epic adventure. Take lots of pictures to share.

As to the rest of us? Well, we do what we are able and try enjoy our Airstreams the best way we can...even if, for some of us, it means shorter jaunts into nature and perhaps a few RV parks here and there.

Alaska is a place we have always wanted to get to know, or at least one small part. Alaska is on the way in 2 summers.
This is something we have been planning for years. After selling our businesses, homes, and everything not needed, we still need to depend on our retirement savings.
We aren't planning on having this trip be easy, like wisemen say, it's always double what you planned!

I met a couple about a year ago who spent 15 years travelling globally, their AS was a banged up, well stickered object. After spending several hours with them in a parking lot, I knew this was the way I wanted to spend early retirement. They had literally, tens of thousands of photos of their journey. I regret in the past, I didn't have an Airstream.

I hope I didn't sound snotty; It seems to me that for the most part I see the AS community not really using these for the intended purpose.

All this kicks off for us in March, we have a blog set up and ready to go. We will certainly try to become a part of this community and keep in touch!
Isn't the world supposed to come to an end anyway? Might as well go out like this....

I have a friend in Conn. Years ago his parents bought a small motor home ( non-AS). They shipped it to Australia and toured Aust. for a year. A dream trip for most of us. I also met a guy while camping in Venice, Italy ( we were tenting it during my Army service). He was from Australia. Every 2 years he ships his small ( non AS trailer) to Europe. Follows it and bought a new VW and toured Europe for a year. Sent the whole combination back to Australia and at the end of the year sold the VW and began again. Did this every 2 years. Now these are adventures.

We travel with our AS. This summer was pretty light but the previous 2 summers we spend a month out west and in the winter head south for a month or so. Next summer planning on the northern great plains of Wyoming, Montana and hopefully more of Colorado and everything going to and from. If I want to sit I'd get a house but for as long as I'm able I prefer to travel around. Enjoy wherever your adventure takes you and when you can keep us informed with your travels.
