Here's the same Shawnee National Forest boondocking site during bow season. Notice there's no deer hanging in this shot. Bow hunting is a bit more difficult.

I agree with you Hibby, great photo's. I am lucky to live so close to great hiking and some pretty good fishing. Hunting is hit and miss like anywhere, you have to spend time (weeks) scouting.
I don't know much about New Mexico in Nov/Dec. But bring long johns.
Tim, Nice buck. Bowtech rules.
Sreve, that is a heavy looking white tail 130-150#??I like the heavy woods behind you. That makes it challenging for a shot. great job.
Here are a few shots of my latest with Bowtech.

Nice buck, Dennis! When do the deer come out of their velvet in California? I've never seen one still in velvet during our hunting seasons here in Indiana/Illinois. My husband & sons all bowhunt. I have all of Santa's "rein" deer decorated for Christmas on the walls in our basement!

Hey Becky, thanks
Archery season opens in Aug 18-22 and runs for 3 weeks or so. closes and rifle season opens Sep 20something. Blacktails here and mule deer with some muley/black tail cross' are in velvet for the archery opener but by mid Sep they are almost clean of velvet. I sent for the supplies to preserve the velvet from a taxidermy supply on line. I believe it was a bird wing and feather preserver.

Thanks Batman... I guess Tinloaf and I will just have to keep posting our "buckless" photos for now!

Today is a day off work for me to spend time some time pheasunt hunting, close enough to home (and cold enough) that I won't be taking the 'Stream, but it sure would make the trip more enjoyable.

In 2011, we are hoping to head west from Michigan to do a week of pheasant hunting in South Dakota or maybe Nebraska. Any great recommendations for a place to park the AS for home base?

Well I don't hunt or fish - give me a bike or skis. But Sam fishes. She's a guide in NY and a FFF certified fly casting instructor. She caught (and released) this steelhead in British Columbia.

Steve - Nice buck and AS in the pic. Love it. Want to share that location with me?

Dennis - Nice muley in velvet. In Michigan bow season opens Oct. 1 and all the velvet is gone. I'm using a Bowtech Brigadier for dot season this winter. My hunting bow is an Allegience and I shoot a chrome allegience for 3D tournaments. "Refuse To Follow".

Sorry Hibby, no contacts in either state. Mom has a 240 acres in IA south of Des Moines.

Wayne, wow. Very nice Stealy. I might give up fishing if I had Sam around. It would be great just to watch and photograph.

Tim, I really like the Allegience. I shoot a Tribute.

Got to go eat more venison stew now...

Dennis

That would stand to reason--our season doesn't start until October for bow & November for muzzle loader. My house is in an uproar of hunting stuff everywhere until January! Thank goodness (for me) it's almost over. My husband has one more trip planned to Iowa for deer beginning New Year's Day. That will be his last hurrah. I only cook the meat! I love to fish, though & we're going to the Keys with our family in January. Maybe I'll catch a hugie to post a picture here too!

Becky, tell the old man good luck. I know they have some very big whitetails in Iowa. The Keys sounds perfect for January. They don't have to huge. Even small ones can make a fun photo. Here is a photo of my son and a tiny brook trout in a dinky little stream. We were hiking and just stopped to take a break and he was just playing around. Fun times..

Well, our family went to the Keys last week. We didn't camp, but rented a house in the middle keys. I did see a really nice 70's 24 footer Airstream on Conch Key that I coveted. Saw a few AS's go down Overseas Highway while we were fishing on the bridge on Tom's Pass. What a beautiful place the Keys are! I didn't catch a HUGE fish, but a pretty nice King Mackeral hit my bait on our fishing outing last Tuesday. He'll be in my smoker soon! We had lots of fun. Next year, maybe my husband & I will have enough time to drive the trailer down & vacation for a couple of weeks. Saw some awesome campsites right on the Atlantic Ocean. Looked FABULOUS!

Nice job. I am soooo jealous. Good idea, the Keys sounds like a great place to take a AS for a week or three. We are stuck in cold, dreary Modesto taking care of some biz. Love the photo. mmm smoked fish, I'm drooling just thinkg about it.

Yes, the Keys sound FABULOUS right now, especially to those of us in Michigan! My wife and I just returned from the Camping & RV Show, and it makes us wish and hope for Spring to arrive as soon as possible...

Just by talking with others, we were able to get some great ideas for remote campsites that will provide great opportunity to hunt & fish too!
