Just got back from the Air Museum of the Air Force in Dayton OH. Very cool place to visit in case any of you are looking for something to see on your way to Jackson Center. While there we saw an IMAX movie on the Hubble mission. In it they transported the astronauts to the shuttle in an Airstream. I couldn't tell what model it was. Anyone out there know?
The space shuttle program has used a modified 1983 Airstream Excella since 1984 dubbed the Astrovan. When the Apollo II astronauts returned from the moon they were quarantined in an Airstream trailer aboard the carrier USS Hornet, now a museum in San Francisco.

The Airstream itself is in the Udvar-Hazy Center (part of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum) near Dulles Airport. In the room with the Space Shuttle, of course. I have a couple old pictures here.
