We spend 6 months a year traveling in our Airstream and probably the most important thing I can offer advice on is to pay attention to the weather forecasts, and have a NOAA radio on all of the time. There are many times we have rerouted or changed our plans because of weather or natural events, dust storms, wildfires, or extreme weather, and we have still got caught in some scary weather.

we have reduced our clothes inventory every year, and still take too many.
we plan our travel at approx. 300 mile intervals and with few exceptions spend a least 2 nights every stop
rarely use the interstates
try different routes and in between destinations every year
everybody gets lost, just try and avoid dead ends
laugh everyday and enjoy your time together, you know the saying "life is too short", it applies

Hi

We also do the 6+ months on the road thing.

We have started doing more Harvest Hosts and the "one night still hooked up" has worked really well for us. Generally there is something to do at the location. They seem to have set up a farmers market across the parking lot this morning. Rolling out *seems* easier when there is zero outside tear down / hookup to do.

How far to drive and what to drive on is highly variable. After towing on a range of roads in urban areas in the east, most of the rest of the country is a wide open expanse of (relatively) empty roads. Six hours including tear down / setup is the longest we target for. Typically we aim for about 4 hours. If it's going to be crazy driving we aim for less than that.

Laundry for us is a "pack for 3 weeks / wash in 2 weeks" sort of thing. Find a giant laundromat and do everything in parallel. Fill a bunch of washers and then a bunch of dryers. That way you still can do other stuff that afternoon.

Socket sets - There's one giant set that will handle the bolts on the hitch (and one or two others). It's way to big to do "normal" stuff with. There's also a pair of torque wrenches. One that will do the hubs, another (monster) for the hitch.

As you take stuff out of the trailer, other stuff seems to show up The most useful thing that has shown up recently is an electrified "tennis racket" to chase flies around the trailer with. It has come in very useful. It also is fun to use. The ZAP is very satisfying when you finally catch the target ....

Lots of fun !!

That’s the first step. The second is to open that door and join the party. It did not take him long to figure it out.

Our first night was a Ceaser Creek state park just north of Cincinnati. This is a very nice park indeed! The campground is wonderful with very large sites and full hookups. About $40 with no discount for seniors. Oh well.

We were there for just one night. Nice to be in the trailer again. Slept very well last night.

No report for internet connect. We had 3-4 down and no up! We found out the Renaissance festival was on for the weekend and the one cell tower was overwhelmed with thousands of visitors. The campground was full but the fare site was just a mile away on the same tower. Goes to show you what happens when towers get crowded.

310 miles to Nashville today. Roads were good, but we hit the worst road drop we've ever experienced. Truck and trailer literally jumped into the air. We pulled over to asses and damage but there was none. Pure luck.

On the way, we encountered the most dangerous individuals we've ever seen on the road. I moved far left on the highway to get out of their way. There were two sets of vehicles made up of a lead car pulling two other cars hooked together with straps. Crazy dangerous!

We are now in Nashville. Two rivers Campground a very nice place near the Grand Old Opera hotel (1/2 mile).

Raining cats and dogs! I hope it lets up. We were here for a week during the solar eclipse so we are just passing through today.

We are on to Memphis to make a pilgrimage to see the King. Graceland is on the schedule and also a visit to Beal Street. Stay tuned for lots of pictures and videos. PM me to get on the shared Google images page for hi-res images and videos. I may post a link in my signature until it blows up with spam. We will see.

We encountered the largest uneven road event we've ever experienced. We literally leaped into the air with my truck and trailer! It was so bad we had to stop to see it the trailer was OK. Luckily it was.

Internet in Nashville is working fine. Down is a bit low, but up is crazy fast!

See you tomorrow!

Just over the bridge. I believe it was a transition from a road bridge to the road. Felt like a one-foot drop! We .literally hit our heads on the roof of the cab as we bounced. Everything is OK.

We left our overnight in Nashville and on to Memphis. EZ days campground south of Memphis and actually in Mississippi. A great campground at about $40.

We ate at a place downtown Memphis called the flying saucer. Lots of plates on the walls. Good beer but only burgers on the menu.

Leaving the restaurant we were approached by a guy who was very helpful and then wanted money. I gave him a few bucks and followed his wrong directions. As we were walking down the street a lady approached and ran her shoulder into my wife. And then announced she had been hurt. My wife turned and said "I'm sorry" at which point I grabbed my wife and pulled her away and told the lady in a stern voice, "No you aren't, keep walking".

Maybe lots to be concerned about in this big city.

Of course not trip to Memphis is complete without a stop at Graceland, Elvis Presley's home, to pay respect to the King.

It is a bit touristy at first impressions, but they have so much to cover with his life that it does take a lot of space and buildings. You board a bus to take a short drive across the street to enter the 8-acre homestead. They have kept it exactly as it was from 1977.

A bit ironic perhaps. Of course they need to keep it exactly as when Elvis lived there, but that means I don't need to go back if I already saw it in 1997.

Hi

If downtown Nashville has lost it's charm, there is a pretty good car museum.
