Air Streaming to Los Angeles outskirts

Hi & help,

We are a family of 5 with two dogs towing a 30ft AS to California from way up North with our new Expedition

We are looking for suggestions for RV parks that will accommodate our 30ft, with 5 family members and two dogs for 4-6 weeks. Any suggestions or ideas would be so helpful and very much appreciated. We are looking from the first week of Feb/2019.

Please do not suggest the Hollywood Park. Not family friendly....

Thank you all and Happy Holidays!

I’m staying at Hollywood Park next summer for just 2 days as we pass through, should I be concerned? We have 2 small girls...

Others from that area may have more specific info. My recommendation is to download the AllStays app and see what’s out there for options, what kind of features are available at specific sites, and what kind of feedback/reviews exist for each campsite. It’s a great app. Good luck and happy camping!

Please be aware towing and driving in general in the greater los Angeles area is about as high stress as it gets.
For me it's to be avoided at all costs.

Good central location

http://www.eastshorervpark.com

Best to reserve asap.

It's adjacent to a regional park with lake and excellent dog-walking trails, mostly paved.

I wish I had a Maps traffic screen shot yesterday of the gridlock caused by the rains. LOL
Looked like a red spider web.

In defense of the then Balboa, and now re-named Hollywood, RV Park, I would not hesitate to stay there again. It’s clean, safe, and well-maintained. The owner came over and talked to me for about 30 minutes wanting to make sure everything was OK. This was two years ago, and it was just me and the wife, so no kids or pets. I remember looking at RV parks in the LA area, and this one was the closest. I just asked the wife’s opinion, and she said it was clean, quiet, and easy to get in and out of.

Are you intending to stay in one spot for the duration or do you plan/intend to move around a bit?

If your goal is to explore southern California, the geography is so large and the traffic so intense that you may better served by moving once or twice to minimize traffic.

There is a nice county park in Riverside that within day drive distance of the LA city area.
And yes the traffic in L A is that bad, a nightmare for those not used to it. And driving a large RV.

I remember seeing a couple of places north along the coast, sandwiched between the highway and the beach.

Cheers Richard

No, as a former daily commuter in that traffic, it's FAR, FAR worse.

I'd park no closer than Yorba Linda area, and drive the TV without the trailer into LA if you want to go there. Riverside, Corona, Victorville, or any other places outside the LA traffic mess is much safer for a 30 footer Airstream.

My son drove ours from LA area through heavy traffic on the 91 freeway during rush hour to Corona. He still twitches uncontrollably when we talk about that trip. We park our family rig in Victorville, and depart on trips from there--its safer!

We don't even consider getting even close to that traffic with our 22 footer...

Assuming you are coming south on I-5 or U.S. 101

We’ve stayed at Valencia Travel Village http://www.valenciatravelvillagellc.com

Located 1 mile west of I-5 on Hwy. 126 .

Just 2 miles from Magic Mountian amusement park .

20 miles down I-5 to the San Franando valley , home of Universal studio tours,
Burbank studios and a bunch of other attractions.

Also check out Walnut RV Park in Northridge http://www.walnutrvpark.com located in the San Franando valley.

Happy holidays and traveled next year.

Thank you everyone for your very helpful replies. We will spend the next few days reviewing each and formulating our trip. We will remain in one place the entire time since our work will mostly be in the Burbank area. Happy Holidays!!

I've stayed at Lake Skinner Recreation Area and Rancho Jurupa Regional Sports Park. I enjoyed both but they are more Riverside County then L.A. If you would like to be closer East Shore RV Park in Pomona Ca. is Really nice with beautiful views but a little pricey. Good luck have fun.

I cannot help myself. Avoid California at all costs. Drive to Iran instead.

+1 for Walnut Park in Northridge. We store our coach 5 minutes from there and often stay the last night on our way back into town. Quiet, well maintained, close to lots of stuff. Very nice people in the office every time we have stayed.

Keep in mind that the recent fires may put pressure on available spots near the 101 and Ventura area.

There is a really nice park next to the Pamona Fairgrounds in Pamona- just outside of Los Angeles. There is also a RV park across Highway 5 from Disneyland. Malibu RV Park on HWY 1 is reopen after the fire as well. Drove by there last weekend and they are replanting and replacing shrubs that were burned near part of the park.

I stayed at the Pamona Fairplex KOA you are referring to about 5 years ago. VERY nice. My daughter was in Pasadena for the summer so it was the closet for me. The rates at that time were very reasonable but new owners have bought the RV park and last I checked, they were almost double what I paid. Yes, I know everything goes up in price. Anyway, it is a nice, very safe park. Just my two cents.

Wishing you a safe trip,

Kelly
