Another case of age descrimination....!

I wanted to stay up in the south Denver area and called "Flying Saucer" RV Park in Englewood. I tried to make reservations and she asked me the year, I said 1986 and she said sorry, but you can't stay here! Their number is 303 789-1707. How about if about a hundred of us call and make the same request? I'll bet you a deludge of calls would cause them to stop and think!
Would you all consider doing that

Crystal Kangaroo

Hey GlassGoddess....

YeeeHa..another Colorado Camper here. The Crystal Kangaroo is a much nicer campground IMHO. Off the beaten path, but close enough to the sites and thrills of downtown Manitou, the deer roam freely and traffic noise is nominal. The owners seem fun and open minded.

We're heading West for the winter...Calif. Ariz. Nevada. We do our best to avoid the campgrounds that look like "Suburbs on Wheels", but if we experience age discrimination I'll speak out loudly...and I will submit my opinion to the G of G camground as well, (Manitou is my home sweet home).

Too old to comein

We're in the mountains of W N.C. and not too far from us is an Outdoor Resort that only allows Class A M/H and to top that off, they can't be more than 10 years old. Sure sends a lot of business our way. We even have several that would be allowed in staying with us. We have a lot more fun here and keep our noses level at all times except at Happy Hour.

Someone posted in another thread about the Bluewater Key RV park located in the Florida Keys, they have this on their site:

Restrictions
Minimum RV length is 26 feet.

I have heard of trailers being too long, but never too short.

I've stayed at GOG twice. First time I was asked the age of the trailer and told them it was an AirStream. No problem. Second time, I'm a repeat customer...no questions. Actually, the last time we were there, a couple of older AS were there also.

I also own a 1993 23' Itasca that will be 15 years old next year. It's garaged and in like new condition with 35,000 miles. I'll have no problem telling a reservation clerk that it's 9 years old!

I guess we were very lucky this summer. We traveled WY,AZ,CO,UT,SD,NM, and MT in a 1977 Argosy. The only question we were asked was the length of our trailer. At one point our trailer was covered with mud when we entered Yellowstone throught the east entry when the road crews were working. The highway was wet and muddy. That red mud covered our biedge trailer and you talk about looking like "trailer trash". We did look like it. No ever mentioned it to us. It was 2 weeks before we were able to wash the trailer during our stop at the Star Valley RV Park near Alpine, WY.

Regarding the discrimation on the older trailers. As has been mentioned earlier in this thread is the condition that most AS owners keep their trailers. Once in a great while you will see an AS or Argosy in less that good conditon. That is the exception rather than the rule. I would not stay at a park which discriminatinated against an olde trailer. Likewise, I do not purchase my diesel fuel at a station that penalizes me 5 or more cents per gallon for using a credit card to purchase diesel.

We've already decided that when Lucy turns 10, and we are asked her age, she will perpetually remain 7 years old, and her length will always be within the park rules.

good to know

I will avoid the Garden of the gods like I would avoid the plague. I don't need, want or desire the aggravation of spending time with those people whose prejudice overwhelms any intelligence they may have. Thanks for the heads-up.

(thanks, dureedesign, for the phone number)

Smile Interesting thread

Sounds like I guess I'd be looking for a state or national park instead...or national forest, whatever...but that's just me...isn't there more boondocking out thata way?

We prefer to stay at state and national parks, or Army Corps of Eng parks, as our experiences there have been really great compared to private parks. Never had a question about the age of the trailer, just the size in terms of your 28' trailer can't fit here...with some of the old CCC parks and a few state parks in Michigan.

Most of our reasons for staying in public parks are that the scenery is great, the security is awesome (rangers), the programs are wonderful, and there's more room on the sites than we've experienced in the private ones.

Most people have no idea the age of an airstream. Ours looks brand new and is a 2004 model and we have had at least 2 comments this year asking if airstream still is in business and if ours is real old.

Real age discrimination is for guys like me who are 51, traveling the country and the 55 and older parks will not allow me in. I mean really this seems illegal indeed. I tried a couple of parks and no way, must be concerned for the women or something????

Comments like that are pretty discriminatory. Maybe it's time to take a good look in the mirror.
