Adirondacks Scenic Hiway for 34 Footer

We are route planning for tomorrow's run. We have selected highway 8 generally from Glen Falls up and around to Utica. Hiway 28 is an longer option.

I'm asking Airstreamers familiar with this area if highway 8 is safe for a big, lumbering 34 foot Airstream?

David

I towed a 25 ft Safari the fist half of Rt 8 from Utica. It's alright, a little hilly and some small towns. The big semi trucks don't have a problem. Go for it and take your time.

Thanks for sharing your experience on Highway 8. I'm glad to hear big trucks use the highway. I've been on some back roads here in New England that have no shoulders, quite bumpy, and lots of sharp turns. Highway 8 is our best route, but I was leery of its condition.

I've been all through the area with our 30'er with no issues. Big logging trucks all around so you'll be in good company.

Thanks folks for your input. We drove from Rutland, VT to near Utica today on Rt 8. I think 28 might be a bit better, but it was too far for us. I found about 20 miles of RT 8 in disrepair and bumpy, especially east of Pleasant Lake. Good ol' rivet pop'in, plastic crack'in, aluminum split'in bumps! So I slow to around 40 mph and ride it out.

The Adirondacks are very nice. Someday we'll be back and enjoy some hiking.
