Adirondack Mountain camping

We wanted to camp in the Adirondack Mountains in June. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where is a great place to camp. We will be heading after that to the coast of Maine. We have never been to the NE, so I welcome any suggestions of sites, places etc to see along the way.

Yes, Lake George RV Park it’s a great Park. Depending when in June you are planning on your trip the local Airstream Chapter Hudson Mohawk is having a Rally May 31 - June 3, if your interested in participating email me.

These threads are interesting reads for the NE in general:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...e-41642-8.html
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...ed-152034.html
link

In Post #146 of that second thread, they leave Burlington VT but pass south of the Adirondacks FYI, so no specific info for there.

These "adirondacks" search results may lead to some helpful info:

The new blue-bordered search function above works great FYI.

Have a great trip!

I lived in the Adirondacks for about 20 years, a lifetime ago. been through all 6 million acres of it. Not sure about campgrounds that can accommodate an Airstream but some of my favorite memories are the areas around Indian Lake, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid. I also suggest the Mt. Van Hovenburg Olympic sports complex. Adirondack Loj, the drive up Whiteface Mountain and Ausable Chasm.

In my younger pre-AS days I did a lot of tenting up there (off the grid). Rt. 28 & 30 makes a nice loop past many lakes. The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mt. Lake is a must see.
If you go farther north to Plattsburgh there is a nice SP on Lake Champlain, you can visit Whiteface Mt., Ausable Chasm and other spots. Then take a short ferry ride with AS over to VT.

Why would the three campgrounds on the lake not be open this season?

When we went leaf peaking, we took the Passport America catalog and planned stops around those campgrounds. The facilities are not all young, but they are functional.

Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont roads get lots of frost heave. Plan to travel slow. Maine was the worst. We had planned to head North and chase the turn. We turned around and chased smooth roads. Traveling at 20 mph and still being rough was a pain.

Best is to drop the coach in a central location and dead head the TV to visit your attractions. Good Luck with your trip. Pat
