Acadia NP Campgrounds

We are planing a future trip to Acadia NP, we tow a 31'. The plan is to stay at either Seawall or Blackwoods. Our question is; Which campground will easily fits our needs with a 31'? Pros/Cons of each campground.
Also: any suggestions for nice campgrounds nearby?

Can't help on the ones you mentioned. We went for two nights to the KOA as you are coming into the Bar Harbor area - it's a KOA, BUT we had a site right on the water. Took the kayaks off the truck and they were virtually in the water. Expensive, but on the water which at the time was worth it for us.

We went without reservations ( as well always do) and had to stay at Seawall. It's a bit further away but that was only an issue due to road construction. Sites were pretty tight but there were some bigger units there. Avoid Bar Harbor while towing. We took a wrong turn and went through town and that was very tight. It can be a zoo there, especially when the cruise ships are in.

We stayed at Seawall last summer and checked out Blackwoods while we were there. Both campgrounds are very similar - campsites close together. Blackwoods is closer to most of the activities and the buses run more frequently to and from there. Seawall is further away but closer to some cute little villages and a walk or quick bike to the ocean. The bus ride is longer from there to many of the activities. That said, if we went again I'd choose Seawall as its further from the hustle and bussle ( is that how you spell it?) and closer to some villages with nice small restaurants, stores and bakeries. A lot will depend on how much time you have.

Last summer we stayed at Blackwoods and very much enjoyed it. We have a 25 ft and had no problems as the sites are pull through. 31 would be fine. You can't reserve a specific site as the Rangers assign one to you when you arrive. We were put on a nice loop that had 2 other Airstreams on it. As for others nearby, if you mean an hour or so away then Camden Hills State Park was pretty nice and the town was awesome. If you mean close to Acadia, I wouldn't stay anywhere else but in the park, but we like the natural setting versus a full service campground.

I have stayed at both SW and BW, both great, for tents, or trailers not looking for hookups. Pet pev trailers over 25' are sent to pull through sites (told to me by ranger) and I do not like pull through- seems like you have no choice. I stayed at Oceanside KOA last Sept and booked same site this year, terrific view of water and sunsets are spectacular! BUT spendy $$$. MPJ

I read Acadia will experience some extensive road and bridge repairs this summer. Traffic was heavy last September. I think road closures would make it worse. Just a heads up.

We stayed at the KOA near the entrance to the park. It was quite nice and some sites are right on the water. The shuttle bus serves this area making traffic and parking a non issue.

There are two KOAs in Acadia. The Oceanside one is fantastic and have lots of activities. The other is in the woods and looked nice from what I could see on the shuttle bus.

Acadia is usually very cool even in the summer (70s) but two July's ago, it was brutal (mid-90s). I was wishing for full hook ups then!

We did Ocean koa in October, had the perfect site on water and secluded( ck photo in Airstream Life latest issue). $$$$ but loved water lapping right up to my site, felt like We were only ones there.

Road construction was ample and this year a good few of the bridges are being worked on in the Park and some areas will not be accessable. Loved the trip, we dont do Bar Harbor, like the otherside.

Looking to be there sometime in late July 2015, We're looking at trying to stay in the Seawall campgrounds, we will look for other Airstream to say Hi to.

We stayed at Narrows Too (the owner has three parks...if you look up one it will probably mention the other two) and thought it was pretty nice. It's right on the water. Really windy though. I never did put the main awning out. We run an Avion 34X, which is 36' bumper to ball, and I got it in just fine. Guy beside us had a 43' triple axle toy hauler fifth wheel, so even my long aluminum tube looked like a pipsqueak compared to his. It was a back in spot and I had the rear bedroom right on the edge of the cliff overlooking the water.

Downside: They closed the pool at like 6:00pm or something crazy early like that. I had the kids put the "Sad Eyes" on them though so they let us in for an hour

Bar Harbor is a Zoo! No bones about it. But it's a nice place. Acadia is beautiful. Reminded me of Yellowstone in scope. Make sure you get tea and crumpets at the one lodge out in the boonies.

We went up there in July as well. You won't need the a/c!

Oh, and look for the lobster shacks that are out of town. Better rolls for less $$$$. I got addicted to lobster rolls up there. They are YUM!

I live close to Acadia and we camp there a few times a year. I like Blackwoods, but it is dry camping.

My other favorite campground is The Bar Harbor Campground. This is the closest campground to Bar harbor, and has the best woodsy feel for a commercial campground. The biggest drawback is that it does not take reservations nor credit cards.

It's first come, first served and usually pay with a check. But the combination of being so close to Bar Harbor or Acadia, hookups and woodsy feel make it my favorite campground in Mount Desert Island (this is the island where BH and Acadia are located).

FYI the Oceanside KOA has 8 Airstreams on the water they rent them like cabins. Few years ago we stayed in one. 3 months later we were Airstream owners. Nice if you want friends that don't own an RV to join you

We have camped at Blackwood's Campground several times and held Airstream Rallies there and had a great time. Last summer we held an Airstream Rally at Hadley Pointe Campground, and all attendees agreed that they rather stay at Blackwood's Campground in the future. We all have stayed in the pull thru sites. Our 34'Classic had no problem parking.

Reasons for liking this campground:
Price: $20/night, $10/night for Senior Passport
Location: close to hiking trail heads, animal & children friendly
Showers: right outside campground
Sites: private with plenty of pine trees

Just a beautiful campground
