Blackwoods Campground at Acadia, Camden Hills SP (Maine), and Ft. DeSota Park (Florida). There seems to be somewhat of a consensus on these three!

This would be great Rodney.

Our favorites are:

Ft. Wilderness (big surprise, hey. It is a great campground on its own and the theme parks are a bonus. Stay there 3-6 times per year.)

Topsail Hill/Gregory E. Moore Camping Resort, Santa Rosa, FL (Beautiful campsites and all hook-ups. They are working on Wi-Fi access for all campsites. Will be staying over Labor Day Weekend 2010.)

FDR State Park, Pine Mountain, GA (Beautiful setting and convenient to Calloway Gardens and other activities like horse back riding.)

Grayton Beach State Park, FL...a new addition to our favorites list (Stayed a week in July, 2009 and liked the beach access better than Topsail. Will be staying again over Memorial Day Weekend 2010. There is a new section that has water, electric, sewer. Good site lines for satellite dish.)

There will be others as we camp more and expand our destinations.

Great thread!

Our favorite camping spot..... too many to list. But usually water and pine trees are a requisite. High on our list would be Yosemite National Park ~ off season. A close second would be the coast near Monterey/Carmel area and most places along the Oregon coast line. (Oregon has really great state parks.)

Our "favorite" closest to home, is Indian Scotty National Forest Campground near Fort Jones, CA.

Indian Scotty has been added to the map. If you have a favorite CG in Yosemite I can add it (or you can). I am trying to add specific campgrounds to the map where possible. If you have specific details on site#s, water, dump stations, fees and so forth that can all be added.

All four are very nice. Big Meadow seems to me to be the main hub of all that the park offers, and can get quite busy as a result, but I'm sure you're going to have a great time there. If it's not your cup of tea, however, we really enjoyed the rustic charm of the less well known Lewis Mountain as a base of operations when we were there last. YMMV.

El Povenir

This National Forest Service camp ground, north of Las Vegas, is at a trail head into the Pecos Wilderness in New Mexico. This campground is reached by way of a narrow, paved, two lane mountain road. In the area: hiking, fishing, hot springs, historical sites.

$8 a night. Some water, pit toilets, trash collection.

I have started to enter peoples favorites into a Google map. Anyone can edit it. You can add a site, edit the entry and so forth.
REALLY GOOD IDEA!

Hunting island, SC was seconded, but i THIRD it. we tent camped here 2 yrs ago before we had our AS. right on the beach, literally. here are some pics of the birds enjoying the SP.

this (below) pic was taken about 50 ft from our campsite.

below is a pic of our campsite. in the distance you can see the ocean (see above pic)

not a ton of privacy, but the neighbors were lovely and all were respectful.
(that's me in the corner there...)

CAMP hatteras was also seconded - ive never been here, but on CAPE hatteras - specifically, Ocracoke Island - has a state park campground right on the beach also. My uncle moved here in 1981 (sadly, the yr i was born)...and we've gone every year since i was born. Ocracoke is truly amazing - you can drive on the beach,
fish, rise a bike around the village...etc .

Favorite camping spot

Bahia Honda was very nice but we really enjoyed Long Key, Fla. We were there in May 2009.
