30 Mile state campground between Creede and Lake City Co. Beautiful part of Colorado, great fishing, hiking and relaxing by the river! Road in is a bit bumpy so I take it real slow. Well worth the effort!

I like the mountains, and I like the beach, so I'll give my favorite for each, both in California.

Refugio S.B just north of Santa Barbara. It's a well protected cove with a great beach, palms, a point break for surfing/ butt surfing (Kayak surfing) if there is a swell.

There a meadow on private land near Loon Lake off HWY 50 east of Placerville that we sometimes go to, boondocking. Quiet, secluded, about 5 miles from the lake which is great for kayaking and fishing.

Thats no way to be.
Whatcha mean Rodney? Ask anybody up here about the best fishing and the answer is always the same -- Mum Lake.

I've got quite a few favorites and some are quite conditional as to season or time of week -- hard for someone to research this thread and say, "I'll go there on vacation too." But my favorite yet is still 'out there.' I like this thread anyway!

For those of us that full time I like Country View Campground in Ogallala, Nebraska...Great place to stay the summer on top of a hill overlooking Ogallala and there is good fishing in the 25 mile long lake right outside of the friendly little town ...The weather is perfect and the campground has everything you need, pool, super wifi, 60 channel cable, giant trees, quiet and good monthly prices...We stayed there 4 months last summer with our 7 year old granddaughter and are going back for 6 months this year.

My favorite camping spot is not yet discovered . . . I'm still in discovery mode!

That said, some questions really need to be asked and answered . . .

1) What time of year are you asking about: my favorite spring or late fall site would not be a place to go in the heat of the summer (they call it Hell's Canyon for a reason).

2) Are you after the view or the smell - do you want it open and vast or in dense forest with rich evergreen smells?

3) Do you want to be with people or all alone?

4) Are you willing to travel over rough mountain dirt roads that may be muddy and hard on your TT (causing lots of cleanup work afterward), or is part of your idea of enjoyment going to a place just off the paved road where you know cleanup will be minimal upon return?

So many to choose from...but I would say:
1. Fort Wilderness
2. Hunting Island SP
3. Camp Hatteras, NC

Thank you all for the responses so far. Some are close enough to us for a quick weekend, and others are far enough to plan and dream about. However, the tow to Hawaii may be more than I want to attempt. I don't think Airstreams float and I know my truck doesn't

National forests or state parks almost anywhere we've been top all other venues.
