Lovely.

I could envision standing under that waterfall...

A Road Less Traveled...

Thanks, Maggie - it is a lovely spot with panoramic views for a hundred miles and swaths of geologic time. The prevalent tree on the mountain is Ponderosa Pine, my personal favorite. The lightning yesterday hit one of the taller pines at the CG, blowing chunks of bark off one side of the tree. Good news was there were no serious problems, and the new roof resealing on the AS held up to the deluge of rain and hail.

Good times, camping in the scenic mountains of Southern Utah.

Regards - Ron

p.s. - the campground is very accessible right off Scenic Highway 12, but has been sparsely filled both nights so far. Nice, as there's no one else within 100 yards of us. Surprising, but I did title this thread the road less traveled...

Travel day... from Boulder Mountain across the Hogsback on Scenic Byway 12 (photo), to the start of the Tour of Utah bike race in Escalante (photo), to lunch in Tropic (photo showing Powell Pt. in the background) and the across 7 miles of serious washboard roads to Pine Lake campsite (photo.)

Tomorrow... hike the 8 mile Fairyland Loop trail at Bryce Canyon.

Life elevated.

Regards - Ron

Fish Lake, Utah: Bald Eagle roosting, wild flowers in bloom on a hiking trail, and the homestead settled by my great-great grandfather in the 1870s at 9000' elevation... nice AS trip!

A Road Less Traveled...

Next up.... destination Nine Mile Canyon, Utah. Past due for a break from the daily grind; it's about time to grab the camera, coffee, some grub and get out there to Nine Mile Ranch. Been through there on work a few times but not camping and sightseeing (petroglyphs.)

http://climb-utah.com/Misc/ninemile.htm

Looks like fun, arranged courtesy of our AS chapter (Dutch oven dinner and all.)

My daughter and I will see if we can capture a good picture or two to share of this upcoming adventure.

Regards - Ron

Please do. Great thread. Your daughter reminds me of my granddaughter, who is a bit younger and not quite ready to Airstream. Soon, I hope.

BTW, your great-great grandfather had very good taste.

Toured Nine Mile Canyon with our AS club... lots of great scenery including Fremont petroglyphs and pictographs, and interesting geology.

Great pictures.

Petroglyphs and pictographs are always very humbling to see, for me.
