8 days, where to go?
Hi, I am a Jerseygirl with 8 glorious days to travel and explore between festivals. I leave Dublin, Ohio on a Monday morning, and next place I have to be is Milwaukee, Wi, 8 days later. I was thinking up to UP of MI, but where to go, what to see? We cant go into Canada since we r traveling with commercial goods and the paperwork would be rediculous. We like pretty places with nice day trips, flat hiking, little towns. Ideas anyone who has been to that area?Do I wing it or get reservations? Thank you all in advance.

If you're going to the UP within the next couple of months, you will need to do something that can be accomplished with snowshoes or skis.

The snow is usually melted in the woods by mid-June. By August, the weather can be very enjoyable.
Copper Harbor at the tip of the rabbit's ear is beautiful in the summer. The park has lots of opportunities for hiking and siteseeing. Also Isle Royal in western Lake Superior is a fascinating wilderness with lots of wild life. I think they still have a boat leaving from Houghton for Isle Royal tours. The Pictured Rocks tour around Munising is also worth while. There used to be some copper mine tours in Calumet... something to do if it's raining.

I've snowmobiled up to Copper Harbor from Houghton many times. The trip is so gorgeous, and the moutain top is breathtaking. It wil be great in the summer, also.

I grew up on Hancock, I know there is a boat in Copper Harbor that will get you to Isle Royal also.

Go to Whitefish Bay and visit the Shipwreck Museum.
We love to drive the shoreline of Lake Superior. Lots of beautiful harbor towns and views of the lake.
Copper Harbor is beautiful, as is Bayfield, WI. Plenty of city campgrounds to stay in inexpensively....not luxury accommodations, but water and electric.
Have a great time.

Sbb,
We met at Recompence last fall, hope all is going well.
We'll toss in the Henry Ford Museum, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Bronner's Christmas Shop in Frankenmuth, and a day trip to Mackinaw Island for consideration.
Safe travels,
Roy and Marie

Roy & Marie, they are all on my list. I like the idea of city campgrounds. We do not need bells and whistles. What are your plans? I am so itching to get out. Our Bar Harbor stay was great. Perfect spot on water at KOA, infact Airstream Life has photo of our Bambi in their Spring issue. I am sure we will see you down the road.

Sbb,
Agree. Bar Harbor and Acadia are beautiful and I'm still having lobster withdrawal... Congrats on being in Airstream Life. We look forward to crossing paths again. Enjoy traversing Michigan in August.

Potato Creek State Park in North Central Indiana is very nice.
The area around Traverse City, MI is just wonderful. Lots of very nice State Parks and one National Park just to the south. Be sure to visit the German Winery.
Also Deerfield Village in Dearborn, MI. Henry Ford developed this and It is wonderful if you are interested in history.

All the suggestions and recommendations are excellent. Having lived most of my life in Michigan I can vouch for the state parks as being great stops. Anywhere along the shores of Lake Superior will be well worth a visit. Try the Great Lakes circle tour or Light House tour. Google these for more information.
