Last July, we were advised against 71 in Arkansas due to it being rough. So we avoided it.

Staying in Fort Smith

Do you have a place to stay while in FS? The Army Corps of Engineering campground in Barling is very nice.

While in Ft Smith you should check out the gallows of the hanging Judge Isaac Parker.
Drive the Belle Grove historic district to see fabulous architecture.
Miss Laura's Social Club is a must see. It's the visitors center and the only former bordello that is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The City of Van Buren is on the north side of the Arkansas River. It has a historic downtown area and a passenger train for an afternoon ride through the mountains.
I know this information was not what you requested, but I couldn't resist promoting a little Arkansas beauty.
Enjoy your travels!!!

71N to Ft. Smith

I pull our 30' AS up 71 from Y City to Ft. Smith regularly. Don't find the highway to be exceptionally rough. Heading down it in the morning.

We will leave Cossatott Reefs on Tuesday headed N on 71. Thanks for all the info. We are enjoying the area and waiting for the NM and CO thaw to head that way. Love the Santa Fe thread and want to do the Turquoise Trail.
