69 Safari R.I.P

It was a great trip down the Oregon coast till this happened. Its been a stressful loss. I bought this Safari early this year, spent a couple months on a job in it.. and was looking forward to going full time in it.. Well, Im still planning on going full time, but it will likely be in a 71 Overlander im negotiating now. I just got the settlement call from the insurance company monday.. $7,400. I was planning on buying it back until they told me $1,600! I was expecting $5-600. It would cost me $400 plus time/expenses to go get it.. Im in Utah.. Its in Florence Oregon. So, its time to say goodbye to my first Airstream.. It surely wont be the last.. oh no. So, be careful out there.. and be sure you have your home properly insured! Heres a pic of the pain.. Granny did it in..

Pics of the good times with it, and the last pic before the accident.. Obviously, Oregon

My heart goes out to you. I've come close to that but been lucky so far.

Amazing how they are more than just a trailer isn't it.

Tough one Jason. Would be nice to be able to buy it back for the parts. 69 wing windows are like gold, but don't think I'd go for the $1,600 plus your expense either.

Ahhh! That's horrible -- at least no one was injured, but that is one of my fears out and traveling in the A/S. Someone can completely take my dream away from me (and all my sweat and blood and tears) by not paying attention on the road, talking on their cell phone about last night's party, or whatever!

OUCHHHH sorry to hear that's happened. I had some kid run into my boat, opened his hood like a can opener and the outdrive skeg was inches from his face, he stopped talking on his cell phone then.

Wow.. Thanks everyone... It was and still is a tragic loss. The police and fire department we very empathetic of the loss.. Its a weird feeling. I own several classics, but I have never seen one hurt.. or totaled until this.. Im learning that I really liked the 69 model year... and the Safari model.. I like the all wood interior and the newer body style. The 71 Overlander im looking to buy is very cool, but im not sure im a fan of all the veneer...

Again.. thanks for all the love.. and the moment of silence.. taken.

You will become a fan -- come to the dark side! It's actually not really that bad -- it's very light, really strong and can be replaced with another "look" pretty easily.

Your granny? Someone else's? I can see a woman with her head down in the car—is she ok? How did she drive into it? Was she texting?

Jason, it definately hurts to see the pics. I sent you a PM. I would be interested in contacting the insurance to see if it goes to a salvage yard, because there are lots of 69 only parts that would could use to replace missing/bandaided parts on our tradewind.

Yikes - I'm so sorry! You obviously put a lot of time & effort into that trailer. I hope the 71 you're looking at works out, and that you find as much to love in it as you did your 69. Good luck.
