31' AS vs 25' AS Vintage Models, late 70's

Does anyone know if there is much difference in pulling a 31' AS vs 25' AS? Would the milage be much difference? How about the handling.

Fuel consumption would be about the same, acceleration would be better with the lighter trailer.

I think that the 25 would be much easier to tow. I have owned a 34' and two 25' Airstreams and the 25' Airstreams were much, much easier to tow.

It's really a weight issue and the length of the unit itself. I went from a 27' Safari to a 31' Classic slide out. Is one easier to tow than the other? Well there is a obvious weight issue which amounts to 2,000 lbs more weight. Yep the 31' trailer is longer so I have to take that into account. Neither of which in my case makes one more difficult than the other. The key is the tow vehicle and I can guarantee you that if I had been using my old half ton van, it would have been a much more noticeable situation and I'm sure ease of towing would be a much more clearly defined issue.

Both trailers were towed by the same 3/4 ton 6.0 liter 4.10 axeled GMC van. Difference in gas mileage? Maybe one mpg.

Thanks for the info. My wife would like to go down to a 25' but I hate to give up the room.

Tim,

I guess you didn't know that all 25 footers ever made are subject to sway and bursting into flames. This is caused by a design flaw in the reverse thrust manipulators.

For the sake of your families safty you'd better keep that 31 ftr. They are proven to be safe and there's really not a noticible difference in fuel mileage.
