2012 the road

here in sunny picacho peak with the Four Corners Unit ringing in an eventful year, one in which the Mayan calendar ends an era....who knows what is around the next bend in the road...

As I sit here and plan our third year of full time travel on the road...we will leave this rally tomorrow bound for Organ Pipe National Monument, then Yuma for a brief stay before heading to Buckskin Mountain and Lake Havasu City, Arizona where we will stay until mid month.

After that I am considering venturing north into the area around Boulder City, Nevada and use that as a base camp and explore the South Rim of Grand Canyon and up into St George , Utah and Zion NP once again.....then over to Parrumph and into Death Valley . Circling all the while before heading for a stay in Sedona, AZ before heading to the Dead Horse Rally with the 4CU at Cottonwood, AZ. (mid Feburary).

Then, weather permitting, off to santa fe to explore some land that we ain't bought......

Then on to Texas for a few days...for...then the focus becomes the Rally at Myrtle Beach, SC in mid april......then the Morraine View Rally in Illinois in early June....headed for the Under the Bridge Rally in beautiful Michigan the first part of August.......details later

The main thing to be said about this monument is that Nowhere is quite aways from it....this is past nowhere

Once one turns south from Interstate 8 at Gilla Bend it is 70 something miles and a scant 6 miles from Mexico and a river of illegal residents streaming across the border.....

The main residents are cacti...saguaro, ocotillo, chola....and very few organ [pipe species....

It was worth a one night stay...only in January, however as it would be hot as hades here in the summer....

two nights in Yuma is plenty....we stop here to get a supply of Honey and fresh fruits and vegetables....not much reason to stop here, for us...but thousands upon thousands are transient in this desert oasis.......

onward to Buckskin Mountain state park.....

we have been to Buckskin Mountain state park; Lake Havasu City Windsor Beach state park; explored Boulder City, Neveda and Valley of Fire State Park and Lake Mead National Rec Area back down thru Laughlin, Neveda, Bullhead, Az and now at River Island state park near Paker , Az before heading ??????

Now thinking about heading to Joshua Tree Natl Park for a few days and then around to Lake Cahuilla near La Quinta, Ca and then into the Anza Borrego desert for a few days.......

Like Maggie, home and alive. I also want to be home and alive on Dec. 22.

However, the Mayan calendar as well as the Aztec one (which is similar) is based on a series of cycles. When one ends, another starts. This is similar to some Asian religions which hold that everything is based on cycles (reincarnation is a similar concept). This concept is sometimes borrowed by western religions and is reflected in the term "this mortal coil".

Joshua Tree NP is a cool place to visit and the trees (actually bushes) are really weird. We stayed in Yucca Valley at the Yucca Valley RV Park. it was a nice smaller park. Across the street is the Route 62 Old Timer Dinner, a good place for a breakfast and to see vintage motorcycles. There are a couple of campgrounds in the park if hookups and wifi are not important to you.

we have been there several times...i understand that there was a terrible flash flood thru there in the fall and that the cottonwood camp ground was washed away....

has anyone been to Lake Cahiulla near La quinta , Ca....looks and sounds like a neat place from the reviews on rvpark reviews.....
