1977 Argosy

Hi, Currently traveling form Ontario Canada to California. Now in Las Vegas Nevada. I was turned away at one campground due to the age of the trailer and only was just barely allowed in the park I am in - they saw the WBCCI number on the trialer and that seemed to "reassure" them. Any similar experiences and any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the past we have run into the same issues with RV "Resorts", and IMHO you only have a couple of options, and you've already taken the obvious one, and that is go somewhere else. The other options is to tell them it's an Airstream, and lie about the year model. Most often they don't know the difference, but you will have that on your conscience.

Personally, I think most of these type places are also overpriced, and so don't want to stay there anyway.

Dan, your camper is beautiful.

Maybe they didn't realize that you write camp ground reviews
( all of us can ) for a twenty thousand member Airstream Forum. Give them a call back, and tell them that you want to get the spelling right. ( just kidding )

The good news is that one of us was offered an Airstream discount at a campground.

There are still campgrounds that smile, welcome you, are glad to see you, and call by your first name. Some even like mandolin players.

I am a bit confused. Are you saying that due to the age of your trailer, you were turned away from a camp site?

Yes that is it exactly - apparently the campgrounds have rules that state they do not take trailers more than 13 years as an example in the first campground and 10 years in this one. And believe me when I say this campground is not a palace in any way - adequate is how I would describe it. Lots of permanent trailers that have been here 20 years. Have not seen a trailer that I would trade for mine. Couple of nice motor-homes - but no trailers.

What is the reason for this rule? I find it hard to believe people buy new trailers every 10 years.

Not sure of the reasons - they may be valid - tried to make the point when I left that Argosy/Airstream owners look after their trailers - and should dot be a determent to the park. - Kings Row in Las Vegas - ask them if they remember the 2 guys who were in the 24 ft Argosy in Oct. 2013 - they were no problem and u will not be either.

I feel your frustrations Dan. Driving our newly purchased Argosy southbound earlier this year, we ended up in Jugtown PA, where the owners of a beaten up campsite warned us that we cannot stay much longer than a night... Don't they know vintage is in right now?!

I had that experience a few years ago, passing through Lake Havasu city. The park was 10% occupied, and I was having truck problems which is why I stopped. It was a Sunday and the Dodge dealer was a block a way. AND I was a solo female. They said my argosy did not meet their 10 yr requirement. I couldn't believe it! So I just went and camped at the Dodge dealer lot. I've been to a zillion campgrounds with my trailers in the past 10 years and this is the only time its happened.

Thanks for the info - heading that way in a couple of weeks - my experience was in Las Vegas at two different parks.
