12 volt appliances

OK, I need some help here. I have a '65 Globetrotter and have a lot of recepticles for two prong electrical stuff.
How do I go about using 12v appliances, you know the ones that have the cigarette lighter plugs?
My old sob had 2 built in accesses for these and had no problem.
Is there something I can buy, or if I plug them into regular receptical and it will work off of the battery (I doubt it)?
Does the little transformer like I use in my house do the job? You know, like you use on your cell phone charger.
I'll be dry camping for 4 days. If the wind is bad, I'll be inside and would like to use my little TV.

(I can't believe I'm asking this! Just a few years ago I was sleeping in a tent and sneering at people with big RV's, microwave ovens, a/c, and TV's!!)

Diane, my 72 has two 12V cig sockets. One is above the credenza, built into the TV antenna socket, the other is in the bathroom under the upper shelf. If you do not have 120VAC shore power, than a transformer will do you no good. You may want to have a small inverter installed. The inverter will convert your 12V into 120VAC. I just bought a small Vector 400 watt inverter from AutoZone for $60 this spring. It won't run a microwave or coffe maker, but will run a tv, or cell phone charger. Are you sure you have no 12V outlets anywhere?

Our '64 GlobeTrotter has a cigarette lighter type plug by the heater cabinet/bed/gaucho area.

OK, I went out to look for signs of 12v plug ins. I suspect that whoever owned this before me did away with them for some reason.
I have plastic plates the size of an outlet in the front covering up something. I'm taking it in later today to have the brakes checked. I'll see about getting an inverter while I'm at it.
Oy! My gottahaveit list is getting longer all the time!
