The Squarestrean photo's taken at the Texas State Vintage Rally.
(1)It looks like a 33ft 1991 with fwd kitchen is that right?
(2)Is it white?
(3)It look's like the fwd and rear end caps are more square at the top by lights and numbers than the 1989/1990
(4)This may be the first, last & only modle year with "high-glossfiberglass construction.
(5)Does anyone know the owner,I would like to email him.I am making scrap book/history of Squarestreams trailers.Would like hear from any Squarestream trailer owners with photo's and info about there trailer.

SOB Relabeled..

If I didn't read the name, I would have lost money on any bets on what that was. Before I got my AS (and another now), I thought that shape was IT. Now I'm sure that my trailer shouldn't be any squarer than the top of my head.

My bet on this model in this year is fiberglass exterior. As I thought I read, the Land Yacht label caught my eye on these pics too (fiberglass according to the brochure?).

I might have known that these anomolies ("squarestreams"?) existed , but must have selective recall. I concur that the interior living and storage space would probably be bigger, but the towing aerodynamics/characteristics would be like any SOB wouldn't it?

Oh my. I feel like a snob...I feel betrayed about a box. I had to get over my Argosy shock, and now even embrace Avions and some other old aluminum TT. Maybe I can study these and overcome my prejudice...

Squarestream contruction

This from "Airstream Innovative Technological Leadership".This is for 1989.Squarestream
"Airstream Land Yachts are perhaps the first truly innovative travel trailers engineered from the ground up to be better than the competition.Designed for easey towability with a full bodied interior for unsurpassed livability. They are tested for long turm durability at the transportation research center in Ohio. With Airsteams 55 years of experience, they are built to have higher resale value and last longer than their competition, yet are incomparably desighed for confort and livability.Land Yacht used the leading edge of modern aerodynamic design with smooth flush-fit construction techniqies and gentle flowing contours. The result is better gas mileage, noticabe better handling under towing and a trailer that is easier to maintain.
Compare Land Yacht's unique features and important extras against any other travel trailer in their price class.Compare their kick-off-your-shoes confort and value down the road. When you do you'll move up to a new standard-the all new Land Yacht.

STRUCTURAL STRENGTH

Part of Land Yachts superior durability comes from an interral structural cage made of specially extruded aluminum far thicker than those used on any competitors trailer, welded for additional strength and fermily attached to the chassis. It is significantly more curved at the corners and the sides than a conventioal trailer to improve aerodynamics and handling.

HEAVY DUTY CHASSIS

An extremely rugged chassis made of high strength steel alloy rolled to exacting specifications was designed specifically for use on the Land Yacht. An alumenum skin and 2 1/2 " of fiberglass insulation beneath, provide improved aerodynamics and weather protection. With a 1/2" Blandex floor above it forms a solid base on which all else rides.

INTEGRATED GAS BOTTLES AND SPARE TIRE STORAGE.

Unique horizontal placement of the gas bottles, within the A frame provide maximum protection and insulation from sever weather.By mounting them lower than on other trailers and on rollers they are easier to remove and replace. The sculpured bottle cover enhances overall areodynamics and improves the front end appearance.
Protected under the A frame extension to the front of the trailer the spare tire is easily cranked up or down for maximum convenience.Other manufactures might not have thought of this but we did.

HOLDING TANKS

The water holding tanks entgrated into the sub-floor assembly are insulated and warmed by interior heat from above to reduce the possibility of freezing.

INCOMPARABLE SUSPENSION

Our Doro Torque axle is the best handling rubber torsion suspension in the world with fewer working parts and greater ground clearance than conventional axles.Even if a tire goes flat and must be removed a Land Yacht can still be towed a short distance, thanks to its Duro Torqe axle which prevents the hubs from touching the ground.Along with the lowest maintenance it also absorbs 50% more road vibration for increased vehicle durability.

ADVANCED CONSTRUCTION

Our exclusive monoloc process joins the aluminum roof and sidewalls with unbelievable precision. Like all seams on the land Yacht the result is a double seal leak free bond with greater strength and the ability to distribute forces over the entire body. This results in a trailer with better fit of internal furniture and components with enhanced long term durability. The exterior aluminum sidewall skin double the thickness of some other trailers is a special alloy, tension levelled for smoothness. The skin is then permanently bonded with a proven space age adhesive to the structural cage"

I think this would apply also to a 1990 but maybe not a1991 since it is fiberglass.

my two cents,i own an 86 32' argosy.it is aluminum.from my research from airstream brosures, different web sites, and the forums, this is the truth as i've found it.the 72-79 argosy's are aluminum, the 86-88 argosy best i can tell, were aluminum.89-91 airstream squarestream was made of both fiberglass and alum.the early ones aluminum and the newer f/g.the way to tell them apart seems to be,the alum. ones have an opening front window w/rockguard,the f/g ones have a solid fixed window on the front end with out rockguard.also i noticed the on the end cap area on where the cap meets the side walls on the aluminum ones, they just connect here,at this point with the bonding glue.the f/g ones at this same point has a vertical strip screwed on between the end cap and the side wall,i guess to help keep it together.i'am glad mines aluminum.the bonding glue the factory used, has held up perfectly after 21 years and many miles down the road.i hope many more.

Hi Everyone:

I am the owner of the 1992 26 foot AIRSTREAM Land Yacht TT that seems to have kicked up this discussion. I just happened to surf by this list and was surprised to saw the pictures of my rig that were taken at the Texas Vintage ralley last year. To try to set a few thing straight, this unit is a fiberglass trailer. It also is the only 26 foot Square stream that I know of. It seems that the production of the Land Yacht TT was discontinued shortly after my unit was made. This rig has a side kitchen, rear queen size bed, frount sofa and loads of storage space. The only modifications to this unit has been to add a second air conditioner for the bedroom and replaced the original non-carpeted flooring with hardwood floors. At the International rally at Perry, there were only two "SquAirstreams" that I was able to find mine ( the Fiberglass one) and a 1988 29 foot aluminium Land Yacht from Ontario. I will be taking this rig to the Bozeman Rally this summer and I am sure that there will be the usual number of requests to tour my trailer.

Hi
Welcome
I see you found the photos that I used to find you. It was the WBCCI number that is how I ran you down.

I overtook this motorhome on GA 515 between Ellijay and Blue Ridge yesterday.

Until I passed it and saw the "Airstream" letters on the back, I didn't know it was an AS.

I went up the road a while, then stopped, got some pics as it went by, then got in and caught up again to get the pic of rear panel.

Squairstream: Welcome from fellow Texas SquareStreamers, just north of you in Stephenville. Thank you for posting and letting us know you are out there. We too were at that First Vintage Rally last year but were in the Vintage section with our 1982 310 Motorhome and failed to see your Unit. We have since purchased a 1992 29' Squarestream and are in the process of restoring it to it's original twin bed lay-out and do a little updating. Everything has been removed and new mattresses are on order. We begin reassembling and rebuilding and putting everything back in this week and should be camping by this weekend or next. Now that we know you are out there we hope to see you soon. We'll have a lot of comparisons to make.
